What I get out of this is Green sucks, Schultz needs to be replaced if he cant figure out where the blitz is coming from. Also, Stroud needs to be able to identify the free rusher quickly and go to his hot read.
Here is the problem. On all of those examples. There wasn't one hot read because it was a 4/5 man rush. He isn't hot via zero blitz. You can't run hot, when their ameoba defense is dropping in to hot lanes just in case they bring more. There is nothing he can do. Its a coaching and scheme issue that has to be fixed. Whether its shortening the routes in the future. Widening out the formation... they have to make it easier on these lineman who are struggiling mentally. Almost all of those plays had an opp for a big gain if they were blocked correctly.
This right here... When the defense crowds the line like they're going 0 then drop out, they WANT the QB to throw hot because they're dropping into those throwing lanes. Now this is when they drop out, if they do send 7 then sure, throw hot, but GB didn't do that, they typically sent 4 to 5, which in that case CJ made the correct decision to NOT throw hot. What needs to happen there is to just run your offense, because, in theory, you have enough blockers to account for the pass rushers... the issue is that someone would blow an assignment and GB would get a free runner at CJ even though they only rushed 4.
The more I read about this, the more I come away going WTF, how do these guys not know how to block, is it coaching, are they simply not smart enough to handle the complexity. do some of them just suck at their jobs.........probably a little of all of the above, but man is this tough to watch. IMO were stuck for now (I would bench Green) until we can revamp in the offseason.................OK, Bobby, show us why you had so many HC interviews this off season and right the ship.
It defies logic how professional football players can forget their fundamental training up to this point. Its a systemic breakdown for sure.
Why don't we give this guy a shot at LG? https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/jarrett-patterson/81775#latestNewsWidgethttps://www.pff.com/nfl/players/jarrett-patterson/81775# He played pretty well as a rookie C last year before injury and has experience at G.
Bitonio is probably available from the Browns, assuming they're willing to trade with us again considering how poorly the last deal they did with us went for them... That said, adding offensive linemen via mid season trade seems to be quite rare.
This is why caserio should have focused on the trenches instead of getting sexy acquisitions like Diggs. Stroud has proven that he can make average WRs look better. Just give him time to operate. Diggs is a surplus. For the resources he used for him, he should have done anything to improve the oline whether it's coaching or players.
While having a line that can't focus is terrifying, there is also something to the fact that the teams that were able to completely make us look so inept are teams that know every crease in our offensive style because they run the same thing. The more disappointing thing was Slowik not altering a single thing on offense especially with Nico out. I went back and looked at the Bears game. Chicago was heavy on the stunts. Ball came out quick. four 2 yard passes that went for 40 yards between Nico and Mixon. The highest Qb rating Chi has allowed to date. Most importantly not a crazy amount of bunched formations until the 4th qtr, Akers fumble
The offensive line can ball out against the Colts at home but I still will have no faith in them until they can do it on the road against mediocre or better teams.
"...we can't just do stuff we haven't been coached to do...that we haven't been doing..." Probably true but take some accountability instead of throwing your coach under the bus.
For me it’s not IF they ball out against Colts, it’s HOW. Do the colts just suck that much? Or did we make adjustments to scheme, communication, coaching, playcalling?
if this is what the o-line took away after film session then there's a huge coaching problem. they've been bad all year, this wasn't 'uncharacteristic'
