If you see his site, you can tell he really puts a lot of work into it.

He's a class act. Never condescending. A very professional moderator on his board.

One thing, everyone can write tough!! I know there are a lot of possible future writers in this board. I've seen the writings from a lot of posters on this board, and I've been impressed.

But, Bill is a cool guy!! He loves the Rockets like I know all of you do. He happens to run a sucessful competitive board. Well of course not as big as this one, but a very well run board with frequent updates.

Clutch, sorry for pluggin the Bill the Rocket guy, but this board gives him too much heat. He is a good writer.

If we can get him to participate on this board that is how much better this board gets.

Hey Bill, I'm glad your a member of this board. [IMG]

Thanks Vince! For those who don't know, Vince is probably the second-busiest poster on The Rocket Guy's message board, second only to myself!

I have actually stayed away from this board for several reasons. 1 - I stay so busy keeping my own site and board up to date that I don't exactly go looking for other places to post. 2- the other reason is that people seem to think I'm in some kind of competition with Clutch. That's silly. CC.net is the best site I've ever seen, as much because of their art work as anything else.

When I started The Rocket Guy, I knew nothing about web sites, and even less about design - I'm about as artistically gifted as a rock. All I had was a LOVE for the Rockets as old as the Dream's tenure with the team. I don't make money for being TRG, I get media passes and inside info, but that's it. It's a fan's dream come true - I actually interviewed Hakeem Olajuwon last year. I could have died happy that very day.

The point is, I have always said I am not in competition with Dave. I am most interested in game coverage from a fan's point of view. During the offseason, I have some people who drop me a bone once in a while. That's me. Dave is actually in Houston with a team of people working with him to cover everything from camp to workouts. That's why he has the best Rockets site out there. I just have fun running my own site with lots of regulars to talk shop with. Take it or leave it.

I think the problem that I and a lot of other posters have with Bill's site is the constant misrepresentaion of the facts. It is OK to post rumors and quote sportswriters but you should always temper your enthusiasm with some reality. On many occasions I have read his reports and wondered where he comes up with this crap. I feel like he is taking assinine sumors from the bsktball site and posting them as facts on his site. It just gets a little annoying when a fan of your team constantly posts incorrect information for fans of other teams to see. It makes us all look bad.

On another note, I do admire his enthusiasm and the hard work that goes into his site. I just wish that some of his posts were a little bit more grounded in reality. We have posters here that always post the Shaq for Bullard threads but everyone knows they're full of sh*t. You don't see Clutch or Jeff posting every rumor that they over hear in the bathroom at a sportsbar. If you want to post rumors or quote sources, make sure that you have some disclaimer. Otherwise you will start to look bad after a while.

All that a side. Welcome to the board Rocket Guy and keep up the hard work with your site.

Anyone who says CB4 took rebounds away from Dream doesn't rank very high on my "buddy" list.

I too appreciate Bill's love for the Rockets. Bill has his views as does everyone else. You don't have to agree as I do not on many occasions. We are all part of the Rockets family.

Yeah, but those damn steak ads get really annoying ... especially when you click on a new thread.

Are you in it for the money or for the dedication??

When was the last time I seen an ad on CC.net?

I just got back in town recently and I know this is a semi-old thread, but I missed this mess and I have to correct this.

For starters, I live in Austin. Not Houston. Sound somewhat similar. Two different cities however.

Secondly, this "team of people working with me to cover everything from camp to workouts"... could you introduce me to them? I could use their help.

Thanks for the compliments, but ClutchCity.net is very much a fan-run site.

Why doesn't Clutch run ads? This site gets so many page views that an inconspicous CPV banner could generate income without anyone even noticing it. If he has some moral objection to making money, he can donate the money to charity. Clutchcity Foundation would be good. Might even help him get in good with the Rox org.

Advertising is a fact of life on the net, especially when visiting free pages. Just kill the popups with a quick Alt+F4 (Cntrl+W for Netscrape) and go about your business. It is a small price to pay for a free service. Personally, I like to click banners on my favorite sites as way of giving props.

Seriously, Clutch. Run a banner campaign. Nobody in their right mind will hold it against you. Might even let you afford some premium features and services. (Not that your site isn't already 'premium.')

Banners, when not overused, don't bother me either. Clutch puts a lot of work into this site. I don't think it's fair that he gets nothing in return... other than my eternal gratitude [IMG]!

Maybe its just me but Rocket Guy makes me feel dirty being a rocket fan. [IMG] He's like the guy in the trench coat breathing hard outside the men's bathroom at the Compaq Center.
