Yao is ranked #8 for FTA/game among all players at 6.7 attempts per game FTA FGA FTA/FGA PPG 1 Allen Iverson 9.1 24.6 0.37 28.4 2 S. O'Neal 9.1 14.3 0.64 20.1 3 C. Maggette 8.5 13.8 0.62 19.8 4 Kobe Bryant 8.4 14.6 0.58 21.4 5 Tim Duncan 7.8 15.1 0.52 21.1 6 C. Billup 7.5 15.4 0.49 20.4 7 Pau Gasol 7 13.5 0.52 18 8 Yao Ming 6.7 12.3 0.54 17 9 G. Arenas 6.3 16.9 0.37 20.8 17 A. Stoudamare 5.9 12.6 0.47 16.1 His FTA over FGA is at 0.54 which is slightly better than that of Duncan's, lower than that of O'Neal, Kobe and Maggette. He is generating one FT for every two shots, which is quite good. If you use the # of FTA as a measure for the degree of aggressiveness, Yao is doing pretty well. If you use the # of Field goal attempts to measure the degree of aggressiveness, he is not doing that well, but his FTA/FGA ratio is pretty impressive. Based on this quantitative analysis, I don't think Yao is that less aggressive than Duncan or Stoudamare. The only negative for Yao is that he does not take enough shots. In summary, if you do want to see Yao become more aggressive, he has to take more shots, if he can maintain the same FTA/FGA ratio with more shots, he is going to be an impact player. If you want to argue otherwise, please provide your "scientific analysis", i.e. quantitative number support. Don't just tell your "eye witness report". Numbers always tell a better story in average.
oh man i miss the days when we had to break out the quantitative analysis to prove just what a badass Hakeem was back in the day. seriously man you know your pushing up daisyswhen you are so concerned about yao's success that you start quantitative analysing his productivity.
