This puts him one step away from being banned for at least a year, doesn't it?

Clippers F Odom suspended for violating NBA's drug policy

NEW YORK (AP) -- Clippers forward Lamar Odom was suspended for five games by the NBA on Monday for violating the league's anti-drug policy, his second such punishment in less than a year.

No other details were announced. The NBA is not allowed to disclose information about the testing or treatment of any player in the program.

The 6-foot-10 Odom averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds and a team-high 3.7 assists during the Clippers' 0-3 start.

He served a five-game drug-policy suspension in March.

"It was kind of immature," Odom said at the time. "It was a 21-year-old's mistake. It shouldn't have happened. And hopefully, it'll never happen again."

You'd think he could mask his pot smoking...although its fairly ridiculous to test bball players for pot use.

just another day in the life of lamar odom

wake up, eat, go to shootaround, get tested, lose a game, get suspended....

it's the never ending cycle of life.

ahh...I'm joking. I hope he can get his act together so he can help the Clips.

He is a crackhead. Always will be. Some players in the league are like that and fortunately they are not on the Rockets except maybe for one guy... ;)

Just to correct a possibility that I raised, Odom is NOT at risk of being banned from the NBA. Here's the relevant passage from the CBA:
Yes, that means this is now the FOURTH time Odom has tested positive in only 3 years.

The good news for him is, he can never be suspended longer than 5 games, no matter how many times he tests positive. You can't get bounced out of the league for mar1juana. And I guess he knows that. ;)

So look forward to a career-long cycle of tests and suspensions, just like finalsbound said.

Lamar is a good basketball player, but to have this happen not once but twice is stupid. I am sure it will really teach him a lesson to fine him $7500.00 and be suspended for 5 games............for his friggin 2nd offense. Give me a break

The 5-game suspension is only mentioned in the CBA as a punishment for mar1juana violations.

I believe a 5-game suspension can also be handed out for steroid use.

You're right Juan, MacLean was banned for steriod use last year. Freak, it's pretty much common knowledge that Odom was suspended for pot use. He was suspended for the same amount of time 8 months ago, and Odom has a history of pot use dating before his NBA and college days.

First time offense for steroids is five games, second offense is ten games, and third offense is 25 games, so this would have to be his first steroid offense...

I SERIOUSLY doubt that Lamar Odom has to use steroids, though...pure physical strength isn't as important in basketball as it is in football or weightlifting...

He's probably just been tokin' up...Hopefully, he'll grow out of it...

I assumed it was mar1juana because of his past use. I haven't ever heard even rumors of him smoking 'crack' or using steroids or other drugs. My bad.

Yeah, like Nate Newton or Michael Irvin.

I hope Odom doesn't end up like these guys.

I'd rather not focus on Lamar's drug use but rather the NBA's fascist drug policies :D.

He admitted before being drafted he was a heavy user. And that he wouldn't quit. The Clippers did this to themselves.
