what do you think about this? dont know how much oden will fare against yao on the first game against each other. remember those days when we picked yao 1st and he was already being talked about against shaq (he was the best center that time). Now that yao is arguably the most dominant center in the league, i guess it's just fair to discuss how they will do against each other especially oden is the center of the future.

It's funny b/c Oden is not the center of the future, Yao is. The way the media treats Yao, he will never be the best center in the league.... They only mention his flaws, but not the fact that he averaged 25 and 11. Screw Oden, he won't be able to do **** against Yao except foul him.

Shaq dominated Yao the first few seasons. Yao had some highlight plays in the mix, but the stats were way in Shaq's favor.

I expect teh same of the Yao/Oden matchup, with Yao dominating for the first few years, then maybe some move towards neutrality (at least because Oden can probably be a very good defensive center).

Still, Yao's problems come against strong, undersized post players, or trick defenses (semi-zones, all forwards line-ups, etc.), so hopefully Yao/Oden can turn into an Olajuwon/Ewing/Robinson as oppossed to all these defenses we see against Yao now.

Actually, I think this is an interesting battle and one we will be talking about for years.

For a couple of years, Yao will be able to push Oden around with his size. Oden will beat Yao up and down the court and get some easy points that way. But I think Oden will have a hard time defending the Pick n Roll and Yao will be able to score pretty easily on him from 10-15 feet. Around the basket, I think Oden puts up a little more of a fight. Offensively, I think Oden will be confused by Yao's height the first couple of times, since he has only once played someone bigger than him. But if he has a good point guard, Oden will be able to put some points on the board. He has always had a good point guard, so if Jack can't get him the ball, Oden will struggle a little.

Oden is more athletic than Yao but Yao is of course better. Why? Cause Oden hasn't played in the NBA and that'a a lot. It will be interestin' to see the battle between Yao and Oden next season:D

Are you guys all deaf or something?

The next generation centers are Amare, D. Howard, and Oden. Check espn, check this, check that. They all say the same thing, so that must be true!

BTW, only center Portland fans are willing to compare Oden with are Russell, Shaq Duncan and Olajuwon. Yao? Yao who?

to think of it, stoudemire is a better athlete and player than oden but still incomparable to yao..yao still dominates amare one on one...(and that's with a great PG)

how bout I start a new thread on yao against yi? ahahaha yaoyi or yiyao! :p ok im overdoing it....

Well, Yao hasn't won a playoff series, and look at the list of centres you have, how many rings do they have in total?
Portland fans wants to see their team winning championships after championships. There's nothing wrong for the fans to think how Oden could lead them to winning, just like Dream did to Houston fans.

Sorta reminds me when Dream would not get the respect when he was around. The media always look to Ewing, Robinson, and then Shaq as the best centers. Yao will dominate for a long time.

Yao has already lost. Don't you see Oden has already been called GREAT CENTER even though he hasn't played a single NBA game.

I disagree, last time I checked, the last 10 titles were won with dominating back to the basket post players (Sheed, TD, Shaq), and NOT guys like Oden, Amare and Dwight Howard. I think this trend will continue. The emergence of the "athletic C" IMO only makes pure Cs better because people aren't constructing their teams to try and beat those guys.

It so true, the media has already said that Oden is the next great post player and they'll stick to their guns, much like last year when Howard had a good start but Yao's number were much better, Yao was rarely mentioned

Shaq did not dominate Yao. They were pretty much even, although Shaq's Lakers won more than Yao's Rockets. And this was a young Yao we're talking about. Now...of course..Yao will absolutely dominate even Shaq.

Have you not seen Oden play, he is a very good post/back to the basket player...nothing like Amare, yet he is quick enough and twice the man on defense. I would say, he is taller, better, faster Boozer...I'm just not sure how good his shot is. And we all know how Boozer played against Yao.

Umm...hard to blame you for being delusional with a moniker like that but I would suggest you go back and look at the stats. It wasn't pretty.

Or the games, Shaq back with the Lakers was clearly, as much as I can't stand shaq, the better player at the time.

Dwight Howard is pretty good back to the basket also. Although definately not as dominating as Yao or Shaq or TD.

I think Oden will be a good player, don't get me wrong. But all this talk about guys like Amare and Howard being the next generation of centers is complete BS.
