Title says it all. I think Yao and T-mac will have monster years next season but how good do you think they'll be???? Will one of them or both be in contention for the MVP award???
is that an inclusive "or" CO-MVPs! Bob Sura will win Comeback Player of the Year with a solid 15/7/5 in 82 games.
No chance. JVG will undercut whoever is doing well. He's done it to Hayes, T-Mac, and Yao. The voters will think, "If his own coach is dissatisfied, I had better vote for somebody else."
I actually think Yao or T-Mac have a decent chance at getting MVP next year if the Rockets take off and have a great season, but I wanted to choose 0% just to balance out all the people who picked 100%.
Equal to the odds of JVG being fired. In other words 0% chance of JVG getting fired = 0% chance of Tmac or Yao getting MVP.
Can't agree more. I have no problem though, that every player just fit in the system and nobody becomes an MVP -- as long as the system works. But so far, it doesn't.
one of them may be mentioned in the race for mvp but next year will be won by media darlings lebron or nash or wade book it
In Yao Mings case it depends on how many touches he gets when in scoring position. In Tracy Mc Gradys case it is there for the taking if he is in good health. Both will be playing the team game and if the rox get rid of Howard and Bowan and bring in a decent supporting cast they could win 60 games this season.
More like ... depending on how things go, T-Mac and Yao could be each other's biggest obstacles to winning an MVP award (as in, both could be so good that it would be hard to name either one as an MVP candidate). Although if either of them had a greater chance to be MVP, it would be T-Mac. A comeback performance to take this team back to the elite would be a compelling argument -- everybody already knows what our record without him was like last season. (Btw, isn't it amazing how any particular topic could be turned into an excuse to bash JVG, no matter how irrelevant?)
I think health is the main issue. If Yao is healthy there is no reason he can't play the way he was playing before the broken foot. He was pretty much unstoppable every night, he could potentially put up 25-29ppg and 12-14rpg plus a few assists and a couple blocks. If he dominates like that and the Rockets win 50-55 games, he'll get bigtime run for MVP. As far as T-Mac goes, if he's healthy and he claims to be very motivated, you know you will get at least 27,7 and 6 every night. Certainly very nice numbers, but if he wants to win MVP, he'll have to top Lebron, who'll average close to a triple double, while scoring 30 to 35 ppg. Both could easily be in the top 5 for MVP, however unless Steve Nash and LeBron get hurt, or suddenly go south, their not gonna win it.
Them being on the same team hurts their chances.. unless one of them is just so utterly dominant at his position.
As much as I love T-mac, I'd love to see Yao develop into that elite center we all know he can be. The hands down MVP of the league and most dominant big man since the pinnacle of Shaq's greatness.
Yao put up best stats of his career last season, better than any centers in the NBA. However, he still finished at 3rd in center position in All-NBA team voting, even behind that Ben "freaking no offense, every stats are declining" Wallace. Nuff said.
