We just watched our PG stable get decimated and you actually want to TRADE a PG? If Lowry proves to be injury prone, that leaves Lee as our real backup PG. You really want that?!?
Voted for Aaron Brooks. Aaron Brooks, Luis Scola, Jordan Hill, and Chase Budinger are probably all getting serious looks from multiple teams. With those four players, Daryl Morey can probably net some very good players in return. And that isn't taking into account our draft picks and traded player exceptions. Daryl Morey will probably make at least two major trades (or one major multiple team trade) prior to the trade deadline.
is it a hypothetical sentence or you have the inside information that DM is going to do something, I don't think any of the three will be gone unless something great(melo) becomes available....
With the players and assets we have, we could probably trade two of our starters (and other assets) and end up with a more dangerous team on offense and defense.
We need all 3, clearly. But if you can only keep two, hopefully the board is smart enough to realize that you need a contrast between your two point guards to allow the team flexibility in matchups. Whichever style is best suited to that particular game gets the most playing time. Being versatile in your starters and bench is a key to success. So, AB has one style, Lowry and Ish another. So far the board is at 60% AB, which would make the team a lot weaker, and dependent upon one style....you need multiple styles to succeed...against teams that shut down one particular way leaving the door open for other types of success. DD
If you knew AB could be signed to an extension in the range of 5-6 million a year, then Lowry BUT with Conley and Parker already setting the market...AB is gone.
The market can potentially face major changes with the CBA looming. Five or six million dollars after the new CBA could be equivilant to an $8-9 million contract today.
True however if that happens then expect the salary cap, and if there is a luxury tax, to go down also, so it will all be relevant.
A team does need multiple styles but right now the Rockets only have one style and that is scoring. No team needs 4 20 pts scorers and Yao, Scola, Martin, and Brooks are all scorers before anything else. Brooks is a solid player but with so many scoring options the pg position needs to give us more than points. Brooks is a good fit only if we move Scola, Yao, or Martin or if he starts coming off the bench.
I don't think anything will happen soon but if, and that's a big if, AB will be the one to go because he has the most value for a team and will probably help us get a better player back.
Is it really necessary to trade anyone of them at this stage of the season? The position is ravaged with injury and they are down to only one. I am very excited about Ish and I really believe he is the best pg for this team, but until he proves himself over the course of these weeks that Brooks, and probably Lowry, are out, then it is in the Rockets' best interest to not even think of any odd man out. I have my wishes as to who should play what but all that is on hold until the smoke has cleared as far as injuries are concerned, and how far along Ish is as the team's primary pg for the next several weeks.
But it doesn't have to. It depends on what they decide to do. I don't mean to argue. Just that giving him an extension now could end up being a terrible move if there are substantial player salary cuts, all else equal.
^^^ This Everyone on this board seems to think just because Ish had a PRETTY good game against the worst team in the league that now brooks is worthless!! I say go with brook/lowry, its worked the past 2 years so why stop now. And don't trade Ish because lowry wants to start and wont stay forever!
Based purely off of what I've seen so far this season, I'd obviously have to go with Lowry. He's been injured the entire time pretty much, didn't show much when he did play (although the injuries could have played a pretty big part in that), and Ish looks pretty damn solid so far. So if I had to pick one right now, I'd have to go with Lowry. With that being said, it's tough to say at this point. Lowry was big for this team over the past year and a half, and Ish has only played about 2 games of regular season ball. I'll be able to make better judgment after the next few weeks.
