October 29, 6pm ET. That's the deadline for teams to set their rosters to 15.

I'm assuming Landry will be retained. All he has do is show something and not completely suck. He's done that and I think he's safe.

Sura will cost 1M to waive, Lucas 500k.

So with those assumptions Rockets will be:
2.763M over the LT threshold if Harris is waived.
3.141M over the LT threshold if Harris is kept.

Re: Snyder, Butler, and Reed. My guess is they'll keep at least two of that three. If the Rockets do and then move them before the trade deadline they get under LT.

To be waived Sura, Lucas, Harris, Novak, and either Snyder/Butler/Reed?

Yao Ming/ Dikembe Mutumbo/ Jackie Butler
Luis Scola/ Chuck Hayes/ Carl Landry
Shane Battier/ Bonzi Wells/ Steve Novak
Tracy McGrady/ Mike James/ Luther Head
Rafer Alston/ Steve Francis/ Aaron Brooks

Spot #15 is between Jackie Butler and Kirk Snyder IMO. Right now, I see Snyder being cut due to the logjam in the back court.

None of the guys that are in danger of being cut are in the top nine/nine man rotation.

I wasn't pointing out who I'd like to stay/leave but speculating that salary considerations might be the deciding factor on who stays/leaves.

Im not sure why people are putting Novak over Snyder??

They both play the 3 (Novak cannot play the 4 im sorry but he is just not strong enough) and snyder is a very competant 2 man asell. Both are similar ages. Novak has shown nothing, zilch, when given the chance. Snyder has shown potential. Everyone forgets that he was a solid player for us before he got injured last year and during this preseason, especially today, he showed he can be a contributor if any of our 2's or 3's go down. And if worse comes to worse we can get more in a trade for snyder than we can for Novak.

To be cut: Sura, Lucas, Reed, Harris, Novak.

PS. Would love to keep Harris but theres no room. Can we put him in the DLeague? Does that count as a roster spot?

I got the above figures wrong it's:
1.682M over if Harris is waived.
2.059M over if Harris is kept.

So maybe they can still keep Harris with the hope of salary dumping either Snyder or Butler during the season.

Waive Sura, Lucas, Reed, Snyder, Novak and that leaves us with:

    Skip/James/Brooks
    TMac/Francis/Head
    Shane/Bonzi/Harris
    Scola/Hayes/Landry
    Yao/Deke/Butler

I was a big Novak supporter last year but the kid has not shown anything. He hasn't looked good in the preseason or even in the Summer League.

That just about looks right there. Although, they might try to get under the luxury tax threshold somehow, if Les demands it. Not that the end of the bench players are going to contribute much anyway, barring any major injuries.
