...if you go read the basketball ball section, in most of the threads, the first reply usually blasts the thread-opener with sarcastism, then the thread-opener fights back, and whole thread turns into dog-fight... is it a forum tradition or something? Does sarcastism make people like smarter, huh? ok I'm done, throw stones at me.
I think it's because human beings tend to form snap opinions and then go about justifying them. E.g. most people will automatically have a conservative/liberal reaction to a political opinion without thinking through all the issues. Most people were probably for or against the war from the get go rather than laboring over the issues for hours before truly forming an opinion. So, when people see a post they disagree with, it's a lot easier to quickly dismiss it with sarcasm because they probably don't have a fully developed and thought out response to back up their opposition at the moment. Or, at least, that's what I initially think. P.S.- Your observations have about as much utility as a sarcasm detector, a REAL useful device...
