as of 8/5/2004 Pujols, Rolen, and Edmonds on the St. Louis Cardinals are all on track to hit 40 home runs. What are other instances of 3 teammates hitting 40+ home runs. I guess don't look it up until people have had a chance to guess. I only know one other. But I think I could be missing some.
Colorado in 1996 had Galarraga (47 HRs with 150 RBI and a .304 average), Castilla (40 w/ 113 RBI and a .304 average), and Burks (40 w/ 128 RBI with a .344 average). Factor in Dante Bichette (31 HRs w/ 141 RBI & .313) and Larry Walker playing 83 games and getting 18 HRs w/ 58 RBI, and Colorado had one of the greatest seasons of power output in the modern era.
Actually, I think both 1996 and 1997 had 3 40-HR guys for the Rockies. They had: Castilla Galarraga Helton Walker Burks I think it was Burks, Castilla, and Galarraga in 96 and Walker, Galarraga, and Castilla in 97
Colorado in 1997 had Galarraga (41 HRs with 140 RBI and a .318 average), Castilla (40 w/ 113 RBI and a .304 average), and Walker (49 w/ 130 RBI with a .366 average). Factor in Dante Bichette (26 HRs w/ 118 RBI & .308) and Ellis Burks playing 119 games and getting 32 HRs w/ 82 RBI and a .363 average, and Colorado had one of the greatest seasons of power output in the modern era.
actually we're still running 4, since it doesn't take up that much webspace. our league forum is here - http://p088.ezboard.com/bclutchleagues also if you are interested in joining just go into chat and go to #houstonrockets instead of #clutchcity, we'll get you the info you need.
ahh, vinny castilla and his back to back seasons with the exact same triple crown numbers. damn hard to do. and somehow i do not remember ellis burks being a god among men in 96 and 97. a .344 average followed by .363 (edit: one small correction, .363 was burks OBP, his avg. was .290)? if burks plays the whole season they would've had 4 40 homers guys. amazing. actually i just plain don't remember the individual seasons coming out of coors back then being that outrageous. i knew they were good, but not that good.
wow... i only knew the Castilla-Burks-Galarraga one. i wonder if there's another one much further in the past. i know there was a golding age of slugging, then a dark age until the mid 90s.
1973 Atlanta Braves is what came to my mind: Hank Aaron is the easy one and he hit 40 that season. Darrell Evans is somewhat harder to guess and he hit 41. But the last one and the one that hit the most, 43, is one that many, with the exception of a BobFinn, would never get. They could only get it by googling. I'll give you a hint and see if you can get it without googling - this guy was more famous for being a manager - specifically with the Mets and Orioles.
