If I'm a center, I run like hell from even just an offer from the Trailblazers.

No, you misread it. It was:

"You lack the capacity to play with heart for your team and our league."

Doc Rivers vouched for him this morning via Tumblr.

I hope it is nothing serious, but he was fun to watch, especially on the Argentinian national team.

I am often biased against things Argentinian (Maradona, the blue and white soccer jerseys, their history of harboring Nazis, their persistent inability to manage monetary policy), but I really like this generation of their national team. Tough minded, creative, passionate, winners. They just do the dirty work and don't complain a lick about it. Plus they've brought in two of the more appealing signature moves to the L: Manu's Eurostep and Scola's scoopshot. Oberto was a tough dude--and incidentally one of the reasons we ended up with Scola since they already had a backup PF in Oberto. So I'm grateful to Oberto for that.

No, I wouldn't think so. Surely, the team knew this retirement was coming. If they wanted Dampier, they would have tried already.

He just announced told his agent to change his contract to unguaranteed cause he didn´t think it was fair to cash in for a full season. Even when the league rules say that in case of retirement a player is due his full salary.
A class guy in all circumstances.
    Wish him good health.
