Seriously, how cool is this guy?

Whether you like him or not, his delivery is amazing.

I could never imagine Angela Merkel or any other leader of any state in the world doing this.

This is pretty good as well. Daniel Day Lewis absolutely nails Obama in this video.

That was great, thanks for posting. I've always loved this event and enjoyed getting to see a lighter side from our leaders.

It's self-deprecation with an opportunity to trivialize some news stories or take some pots shots at the opposing party. (Like Clinton's joke, the first time I heard a "Taliban" reference.) Would need a a little more info or analysis for either your analogy or that Twitter post to hold water.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>People who confiscate your income, their media fluffers &amp; people who play pretend for a living put on tuxedos and give you the finger. <a class="hashtag" action="hash" title="#WHCD">#WHCD</a></p>&mdash; David Burge (@iowahawkblog) <a href="https://twitter.com/iowahawkblog/status/328543488494944258" data-datetime="2013-04-28T16:17:26+00:00">April 28, 2013</a></blockquote>

See these are supposed to be public servants, our employees, but they act like a ruling class.

Were I POTUS, I would resist any perk or privilege that comes with the station.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>"David Axelrod now works for MSNBC, which is a nice change of pace since MSNBC used to work for David Axelrod" - Barack Obama, last night.</p>&mdash; Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) <a href="https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/328473833105399808" data-datetime="2013-04-28T11:40:39+00:00">April 28, 2013</a></blockquote>

Now you would think an MSNBC journalist might feel shame at how much truth is in this joke, but you'd be wrong.

He also made some jokes about Fox News from which a similar sentence could be constructed.

I must have missed the blogger's complaint when GWB did these. Yours too, I reckon...

Pretty easy to say how awesome you'd be if only you were in a position you'll never be in. Do you apply this same philosophy in your actual life, or does this only apply if you were POTUS?

There is no truth of any kind in the remark; your political stridency is clouding your capacity for factual accuracy or tolerance for irony or self-deprecation.

All civilizations of any kind necessarily have a ruling class, the administrative component of ours is sufficiently distinct and virtuous because its formulation is non-hereditary and favors intellectual, technical and professional competence, as well as popular sentiment and legal accountability. No benefit in vilifying temporary luxuries or superficial deference to supreme leadership, here or in any other organization.

As with many of the free-marketeers, their insistence, despite very little evidence to the fact, that they are "rational" only serves as a smokescreen for the fact that they're unreflective ideologues. It's a very strange pose. It's like they recognize the validity that "rationality" lends to modern discourse, but they never actually apply it to their own ideals.

No, just disheartened by how politically effective Obama's Bread and Circuses approach to governing is.

Speaking of accuracy, I missed the self-deprecation. The worst thing he said about himself was he misses jump shots.

I would eschew any activity that smacks of royalty. Parties with the media and Hollywood elite would be at the top of that list.

So you'd happily eschew any $250,000 a plater fundraisers where you tell donors that 47% of the country doesn't matter, too, right?

Yes, Obama attends the same kind of fundraisers. But, the knife cuts both ways. Don't pretend one side is more "humble" than the other.

This is one of those events that are going to be horrific to recall in the future.
