I know some will think of him as simply flip flopping and pandering to voters. But I'm honestly starting not to like the term flip-flopper. It's one thing to do it clearly to gain more votes, and nothing more. But Obama here seems to be genuinely listening to the voters, and that's a guy I want as President. (to be fair McCain has shifted his positions as well, though some of those turns seem a little questionable to me) http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5949605.html
Isn't government suppose to reflect the will of the people? Is a candidate supposed to have his finger on the pulse of every issue prior to running for office? I want my candidate to have unchangeable convictions as the guiding principals of his choices but political policy is a constantly changing set of compromises. Personally I think going back to the moon and going to Mars is a waste of money other than the pure scientific research and the advancement of applied science. I'd much rather see the money and science directed at renewable energy research. It would have much more benefit to actually preserving life on this planet. If we can develop fusion energy and need the H3 from the surface of the moon, then there would be a good reason to go back.
Notice he does say: Seems he recognizes the importance of NASA and manned spaceflight, but not quite all their objectives.
Well, that's his position this week at least. If I worked at NASA, I sure wouldn't trust the guy at his word. Not with my job on the line... FLIP FLOP
So, outside of the trust issue, you implicitly agree with Obama's call for more NASA spending? SURPRISING
I think this youtube video raises good questions about the lack of funding invested in the oceanography department. The rest of the video is mostly hokey stuff about how they're inspiring kids but the beginning part raises valid points. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qHU8G6icwsY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qHU8G6icwsY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I have no problem with someone changing their minds on a policy issue, if they have evidence that it will benift the people.Honestly, I didn't have a problem with Mccain changing his postion on drilling either; doesn't mean I will vote for him though.I would be pissed if they did have evidence that drilling here would make a significant immediate impact and he(obama) just decied to be dogmatic to be spiteful towards the other paty. That's one of the problem's I have with the republican party...I believe a lot of the hierarchy believe that it does in fact exist, but will fight against it till the end because of partisanship...If obama is indeed listening to the people on this nasa plan then good for him.
“Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.” Groucho Marx (and copied by Obama)
