My Solution to Iraq Is to Never Have Gone There
An Editorial by Senator Barack Obama
    [rquoter]

Iraq continues to be a serious problem, and the Bush administration has done nothing but increase the problem and cause unnecessary deaths. It is a mess, but I have a solution: I would never have gone there.

The Iraq War will be a big problem to inherit, but it would not be if we hadn't have gone there. That's why that is my solution. People ask me, "Won't leaving Iraq now be abandoning the Iraqi people?" Well, it wouldn't be abandoning them if we hadn't had gone there. "What about a civil war?" others ask, to which I say there would be no civil war if Saddam were still in charge because we didn't go to Iraq. As you can see, not having gone to Iraq easily solves all these problems.
"I do have experience: Experience at not going to war."

As for Al Qaeda in Iraq, I don't think they would be a problem if we hadn't had gone. Maybe they already were there and working with some support from Saddam, but I still think not having gone there is a risk worth taking. You may worry about all the terrorists there and whether they have intentions for attacking America, but you wouldn't if we hadn't had gone.

Senator John McCain questions whether I have experience enough to deal with Iraq, but the fact is that he's old. No one faints at his rallies... unless they forgot their heart medication because they're as old as he is. And I do have experience: Experience at not going to war. That's why not having gone to Iraq is the perfect solution for me. It's one I'm uniquely able to espouse and have been consistent on. Years ago I said we shouldn't invade Iraq, and that is still my solution.

A few have said that not going to Iraq isn't a solution anymore since we already have gone there. I hear your concern and I have three words for you: Hope. Change. The future.

That's right: The future. And not just any future; a future where we look forward and say, "We shouldn't have gone to Iraq."

Barack Obama is a U.S. Senator from Illinois who enjoys nap time and finger painting. He is running for president.

Playing fast and loose with truth is also what Hussein (Obama) is good at.

Talk about missing the point. Obama talks about going there in the first place, not as a solution to Iraq, but to attempt to illustrate his judgement is better than Clinton's. It is to deal with the issue of judgement and decision making, as opposed to dealing the current Iraq situation.

Of course Obama does have a policy on how to deal with Iraq, but that would eliminate people from thinking they are writing witty articles like this.

Dislike a phony half-black con artist is equivalent to dislike blacks? This is how you were taught in law school?

You know what's 10,000x funnier than that weak, weak attempt at political humor, basso's original position that he was "open minded" about Obama. This claim was just another stone in basso's towering wall of intellectual dishonesty. Why would he keep an open mind about someone who has a well known and long standing record of opposing the military intervention that gives basso's life meaning.

That ridiculous farce was basso's attempt to not get lumped in with the other wingnuts.

In each and every debate, this is Obama's answer to the question about withdrawing from Iraq. It just goes to show that he is more focused on applause lines than he is tangible progress. He's more focused on "I-told-you-so's" than he is on the path forward. I guess when you are in over your head on foreign policy matters, that's your only comeback... telling...

Can we *please* change the thread title? God, I can't believe I clicked on this thread hoping to read some real thoughts and positions from Obama.

    Thanks much, basso.

No, I learned it in life. It's pretty easy to recognize when people denigrate others because of their race & ethnicity. The motives for yours I will not speculate about, whether it was caused by some incident or just a funcion of your overall irritability and inner rage.

wnes, in a similar vein, I will soon be preparing a masterpiece of a post which will chart your self-proclaimed campaign to "nail" Obama on the BBS in comparison with his political fortunes and poll numbers. I apologize in advance for any loss of face it may cause, it's all in good fun. I would estimate it will garner an 80-20% favorable reaction on the BBS.

Ask yourself, what happens to Obama's candidacy if we are successful in Iraq over the next 8 months? Answer: It hurts him severely, especially when running against McCain, the military hero. I just hope Obama doesn't continue to disparage our military and their mission to advantage his own selfish cause... (much like the libs have done since we first stepped foot in Iraq...)

I'm curious as to how McCain will win the general election when he refers to himself as a liberal republican and half of his own party doesn't trust him or vote for him.

    Disagree, sincerely.

Everyone with any sense wants lower troop casualty rates and progress on the part of the Iraqi government. 8 months of success (fingers crossed, it's at the top of my wish list) will not cover for the fact that it was ill-conceived, way over budget in both economic and, much more important, human costs.

If in 8 months, we could bring a lot of people back to life, restore limbs, untrain the tens of thousands of terrorists who've been born in Iraq, and make Iraq turn us a profit... then I think you'd be onto something.

The fact that Obama said he is against dumb wars will continue to resonate. for the rest of 2008.

This is ironically fresh coming from someone who has been doing this all along on this BBS.

    Speaking for yourself, Sammy.

Eh, while you are at it, you may also want to detail a list of chronological events involving you and your lib/dem friends here on this BBS blasting Bush in the last 5 years and how you failed time and time again to get anything accomplished to your wish. Two SCOTUS appointees coming in mind, Sammy?

But B-Bob, you must ask yourself if the converse is true: What if Iraq gets significantly worse over the next 8 months? Who does that advantage? Why clearly, it is Obama. Would it not then logically follow that success in Iraq at least partially benefits McCain's cause?
