I thought liberals loved stimulus packages. This is great. We do not have to spend the money policing the middle east. We just let Israel do it. We make these deals to countries all the time. If you only knew the amount of money given to the Saudis. Additionally, defense contract jobs pay well. These corporations are required to pay their people certain wages and provide benefits.
It is cheaper to give aid to Israel to act as a bulwark against middle eastern aggression than for the US to take on that role themselves. We are basically outsourcing a chunk of our Defense strategy in an efficient manner.
Liberals love stimulus packages that help those that are less well off. Military contractors aren't exactly in that category. The money isn't going to repair roads, bridges, public transportation, sea walls, etc. It isn't helping health facilities or things like that.
Aggression against who? The only one the ME wants to invade there is Israel. For a country that wants to validate its right to exist, they sure are dependent on US money.
This so grossly ignores what's happening on the ground in Yemen and Syria. Saudi Arabia and Iran may not want to invade each other, but they certainly want to hurt the other through proxies on existing battlefields.
It is a memorandum of understanding. It is understood that this agreement, just as past agreements have been, is an extension of US foreign policy and is to be used in that manner. The US should stick to its more traditional allies of Israel and Salafi Arabia rather than continue to leave the door open for large deployment in Iraq. Let's take a look at Israel's neighbors: Syria = fighting a massive civil war Libya = fighting a civil war; fractured into east and west Iraq = fighting civil war Egypt = undergoing military dictatorship due to the election of quasi-takfiris Turkey = attacking ethnic minorities under the guise of counter-terrorism operations Yemen = fighting a civil war Salafi Arabia = crucifying pro-democracy protesters and sending dangerous takfiri militants into two neighboring civil wars Yeah, I would say that Israel, at this time, is probably the most level-headed country in that entire region.
I'm sure there are also lower middle class or working class people that will get paid by the contractors.
Israel do what? Create more animosity towards the U.S? This is great, the neo-con mindset of setting a premise of Israel can do no bad.
To be fair he obviously meant increased military presence of Israel when he said Israel in context with this thread
I'm asking how a strong Israeli military makes situations like the proxy wars between Saudi Arabia and Iran better. I'd like to understand the dynamic dumbartonbass is alluding to. If you have your own insight on it, I'll take that as well.
Well....I mean if they didn't have a strong military then they'd be crushed and replaced by yet another extremist Muslim nation to engage in proxy wars in the region or worse. Having one sort of sane, sort of stable country in the region is nice.
