Which, in the minds of the wingnuts, means he does. So let the wailing and gnashing commence. This should be good for another week or so of fevered call-in fanatics complaining about the liberal conspiracy to silence the truthtellers like Rush and Savage... after all, there's a rumor Waxman might already be carrying out Obama's nefarious plan.
of course obama doesn't favor. the conspiracists on the wingnut radio dial benefit obama. they are starting to cross the line and i think alot of their more moderate listeners will finally be tired of them. they are so out of touch its not funny. those republicans in florida and ohio and pennsylvania who have been carrying the party want some government intervention in their lives and these radio hosts just don't get. secondly, they are back with clinton type hate stronger than ever and its just not appealing anymore. I tried listening to savage last week and he was on some rant about starting an impeach obama because of the stimulus then last night he was on some rant about the media forgeting about the war on terror, the scare tatic. its just non stop with these guys and eventually they will hurt the republican party imo. all that crap was fine until now, now there is time for the nonsense.
please, it's not some right wing fantasy (or nightmare). there're plenty of congressional democrats who have made statements in favor of the fairness doctrine, and obama himself has nodded in their direction in the past. but, if this report is accurate, good for him. it's be interesting to see if he really meant it, assuming a bill made it's way to his desk. but for now, again assuming the report is accurate, bully for barry.
It's easier to make up things to argue about Obama than to find real stuff. Obama is a socialist - false Obama is having FEMA build secret internment camps - false Obama is a marxist - false I think it speaks volumes that some people have a tough time finding real things to bring up about Obama.
Really? Because his campaign clearly and bluntly said the exact same thing in June: "Sen. Obama does not support reimposing the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters," press secretary Michael Ortiz said in an e-mail to B&C late Wednesday. "He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible," Ortiz added. "That is why Sen. Obama supports media-ownership caps, network neutrality, public broadcasting, as well as increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print outlets." http://www.broadcastingcable.com/ar...s_Not_Support_Return_of_Fairness_Doctrine.php The only reason I can think of that anyone would think he did support is that they aren't paying attention (or are using sketchy sources as their guidance).

and Henry Waxman [rquoter]Senior FCC staff working for acting Federal Communications Commissioner Michael Copps held meetings last week with policy and legislative advisers to House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman to discuss ways the committee can create openings for the FCC to put in place a form of the "Fairness Doctrine" without actually calling it such. Waxman is also interested, say sources, in looking at how the Internet is being used for content and free speech purposes. "It's all about diversity in media," says a House Energy staffer, familiar with the meetings. "Does one radio station or one station group control four of the five most powerful outlets in one community? Do four stations in one region carry Rush Limbaugh, and nothing else during the same time slot? Does one heavily trafficked Internet site present one side of an issue and not link to sites that present alternative views? These are some of the questions the chairman is thinking about right now, and we are going to have an FCC that will finally have the people in place to answer them."[/rquoter]
and Debbie Stabenow (married to an Air America Exec): [rquoter]BILL PRESS: Yeah, I mean, look: They have a right to say that. They’ve got a right to express that. But, they should not be the only voices heard. So, is it time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine? SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I think it’s absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it’s called the Fairness Standard, whether it’s called something else — I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place. BILL PRESS: Can we count on you to push for some hearings in the United States Senate this year, to bring these owners in and hold them accountable? SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that’s gonna happen. Yep.[/rquoter]
Harkin didn't mention Obama supporting it once. Nor did Waxman. Shocking, but Stabenow didn't either. You seem to be the only one that didn't know Obama's stance. Not particularly surprising, though.
