    HOMELESS 'DRIVEN' TO VOTE OBAMA

    By JEANE MacINTOSH

CLEVELAND - Volunteers supporting Barack Obama picked up hundreds of people at homeless shelters, soup kitchens and drug-rehab centers and drove them to a polling place yesterday on the last day that Ohioans could register and vote on the same day, almost no questions asked.

The huge effort by a pro-Obama group, Vote Today Ohio, takes advantage of a quirk in the state's elections laws that allows people to register and cast ballots at the same time without having to prove residency.

Republicans have argued that the window could lead to widespread voter fraud because officials wouldn't have an opportunity to verify registration information before ballots were cast.

Among the volunteers were Yori Stadlin and Vivian Lehrer of the Upper West Side, who got married last week and decided to spend their honeymoon shepherding voters to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

Early today, Stadlin's van picked up William Woods, 59, at the soup kitchen of the Bishop Cosgrove Center.

"I never voted before," Woods said, because of a felony conviction that previously barred him from the polls. "Without this service, I would have had no way to get here."

"desperate" is one way to say it.

    "smart and motivated" is another.

"Fraud" is yet another way to say it. Shades of Acorn all over again.

At least these voters are alive!

Faos, you make me sick. Seriously. How can you spin getting homeless people to register and vote into a bad thing? How is it that these people have any less of a right to vote than you or me? If any person should have the need to have their voice heard, it is our most needy. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Yeah, why can't they resort to old brown-shirt tactics? You know, intimidating minority voters, throwing out certain people's ballots, etc. Keep it old school baby!

They have plenty of right to vote and I hope they do and you know damn well that isn't the issue.

I'd love to know if the McCain supporters (if any) were offered a ride by the same people.

The Obama campaign is built on people getting something for nothing, even when most of the case he is lying (taxes for instance).

ACORN has been caught cheating and engaging in fraud time and again as it relates to registering dead people and the homeless to vote. You've got some very unsavory people involved in that organization, who have deep emotions connected to Obama. It scares me what types of stunts they will try to pull leading up to the voting. Many of these people are new to politics and have no understanding of decorum or civility.

Please explain what exactly the issue is then. This is not illegal. Campaigns routinely set up transportation for their supporters to get to the polls.

I find it cute. I mean, after years of defending one of the most storied and well-documented accounts of voter fraud, the very same republicans now have their panties in a wad because poor people are being legally bussed to voting booths.

There's no law requiring campaigns to offer rides to supporters of both candidates. It's customary to set up transportation for supporters of one candidate or the other.

McCain can set up all the transportation for his voters he wants, and they don't have to offer Obama supporters a ride.

There's no fraud here, or anything wrong.
