Unbelievable. This is a #1 pick we're talking about.

    ---

The Oakland Raiders are preparing to release quarterback JaMarcus Russell but have to await the final word to release him from owner Al Davis, according to sources.

    Russell

Russell is on the books for $9.45 million this season, including $3 million of guaranteed money. Since trading for former Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell on Saturday, the Raiders have studied Russell's contract and tried to figure out ways to release him to save the organization some money.

If he gets the $3 million (and sources expect that he will), Russell will have been paid $39 million since coming to the team as a first-round pick in 2007.

The Raiders have a minicamp Friday and it's very possible Russell could be released before then. If Davis doesn't give the go-ahead to release him before Friday, he might attend the minicamp, but the team might not let him practice, fearing that he would suffer an injury and leave the team liable for the $9.45 million in salary.

 Yeah, 'cuz JR played, like... what, 5 seasons for the Raiders... right? And I am sure the Giants will pick up JR... and... oh, there's a better one... he will still be playing backup in the NFL for the next 4 years after his release, right?

    NO.

That's a BAD comparison, sir. Anything to take a jab at bad quarterbacks, right?

The year he got drafted, I didn't even think he was a first round talent. Oh wow he can toss a football 60 feet on one knee  , Like that win you games. I didn't see anything special about him. I'm not saying Quinn is better or anything. He's a third round at best

I'd like to see some of the scouting reports and draft grades on him from 2007.

Most people I think thought he was either going to be the next Culpepper or just another lazy, inaccurate guy with a big arm.

Jamarcus Russell wishes he had the talent of David Carr. David Carr is still playing in this league. I guarantee no one is signing this guy once he's let go.

I honestly wonder how much of his 30+ million guaranteed money Russell still has. The guy just has one of those "NFL Films: Toothless & Broke" sob story specials written all over him.

Just to clarify, when I say "most people" I mean you and I... not mouth pieces and writers.

I was aiming more for the similarities between 2 QBs selected #1 overall picks that their teams soured on them. I wasn't going in depth on the details on how long it took each team figured out they were busts.

Who gives a damn about what Carr has done after the Texans anyways? He's done nothing to shed the bust label, and from what I recall only got signed on the Giants because Palmer was on the team and I guess still wanted to prove that he could make a decent QB out of Carr.

He also said he will be a top 5 qb in the 3 years, instead he is out of the NFL, lol

Does anyone else picture a huge balloon when they read "release" in the title? Dude supposedly has tipped over 300 lbs now. LOL.
