Interesting info. It is still early in the season and everything, but the Rockets had the 3rd most change from last season-- mostly shooting even more 3s and shooting less in the paint-- and the only one among the top 6 to not have a new coach. Will this continue? Is this a matter of the 3s being available in the early season games or maybe has to do with Parsons and Lin, who liked to drive into the paint? Or is it a matter of philosophy?

Also... Lol Lakers and their mid-range mania.

Well, Kobe's not going to make his new record unreachable by shooting a lot of 3's.

I would guess that it has to do with there being more guys who pretty much only shoot 3's. Terry only shoots 3's. Ariza mostly shoots 3's. Papanikolaou pretty much only shoots 3's. Canaan likes to shoot 3's.

And their ball movement seems to try to find the open shooter.

Also, they seem to be running the floor less and relying on half-court offense more. When they ran the floor last year, it created a lot of easy lay-ups which means less 3's.

Now all of that is just me guessing and speculating. I have no facts.

The Rockets coaching seems far more structured and crisp this season and the players are far more responsive.

1 missed game from Howard, several from Jones and No parsons... that'll happen to the stats when you've only played a few games.

    Couple of factors -

-You have two less players that are at their best attacking the rim - Parsons & Lin
-Only player added that attacks the rim is probably Papanikolaou & he's more of a dribble drive kinda guy.

-T. Jones has been hurt for awhile (less inside scoring & more small ball)

-More spot up shooters added to the rotation (Terry, Daniels, Ariza, Canaan)

-Harden has been shooting more 3's this year (reason his shooting % looks so bad right now).

    ...........

I think the Rockets would prefer to add at least another guard or wing that can break down the defense by attacking the rim. I think they are smart enough to realize that teams are going to learn how to defend the Rockets from 3 point land better, and try to make guys like Terry, Bev, Ariza, etc. beat their man off the dribble.

Howard posting up this year has been incredibly good. Knowing Dwight like we know him, he's likely going to have stretches where he has trouble finishing in the paint, and if they guard him one on one, you aren't going to be able to get easy 3's passing out of the post.

So the 3 point shot has been a huge factor to start the year off, but I do think that even Morey knows that as the season progresses they will need more shots at the rim to balance their offense against elite defenses.

I do think that the Rockets might be able to address this with players currently on the roster. Jones' return will help. Canaan and Papanikolaou should improve and add this weapon to the Rockets offense to create more balance.

coaching was structured in 7 of 8 games so far. In all 7 we took a comfortable lead by the end of the game. However in the one game that was close (with GS) McHale overplayed Harden and a few other players and we fell hard in the final 6 minutes. Would have rather relied on our weak bench to possibly keep us in it and give Harden the rest he needs to come back and close out the game.

Regardless of whether Howard was out, McHale needs to stick to his initial game plan. Instead he panics and asks his team to perform beyond their physical means then says something ridiculous like 'these guys are only in the league for so long, they need to leave it all on the floor.'

I don't care that he admitted he left Harden in too long.

    Fool me once....

Other than that game, he's been solid. Hope he learns to be patient and how to exercise control over his in-game emotions.

We're basically what Orlando was with Howard when they went to the Finals....

Orlando didn't have Harden though ;)

This. The rockets added two or three high basketball IQ players, who can shoot the three, this is no need to drive in if you can make the three. Both Lin and Parsons are not good as Pap and Ariza for the B IQ and the abilitiy to shoot the ball.

We have much, much better 3 point shooters than we have had the past two years. I have no problem with them continuing to shoot the 3 like that as long as they keep finding the open shooter like they have been.
