I don't understand why they would be looking for a point guard, unless something good comes up. I really, really think that the Power Forward position is the crucial position to fill right now. I like Barry, and with Barrett and Sura, I think we are good for at least this season. A more immediate concern should be to get someone who would help Yao by knocking down some shots and rebounding and blocking (you have to get a PF who can shoot a mid-range jumper, otherwise defenses would continue to collapse on Yao and ignore the PF)

Anyways, it is a very brief mention, but here is the part about the Rockets, and then the full link, which is mostly not about the Rockets...

Latrell Sprewell is not getting that contract extension he's been looking for anytime soon. Minnesota owner Glen Taylor is still miffed that Sprewell didn't attend some corporate sponsorship luncheons before the season. Somewhere, Jim Dolan is smiling … Rockets still looking for a point guard after importing Jon Barry for scoring punch. After Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming, Jeff Van Gundy hurts for someone who can find the basket ...

Well Lue was traded, Ward can't seems have chronic injuries, Sura is banged up and Barret can't ever get to see the court. That is why we are looking for a PG.

I can't imagine who would be available, outside of Eric Snow (IMO would be a bad play style & contract wise fit), that the Rockets could acquire. But, if CD can get a Barry from a Lue, then I have some hope.

lol I'd like McInnis. I think we're fine with a health Sura, Barrett, Barry, and Tmac. Gaines as our garbage player :D

I woud like to get maybe a guy who can play the 2 and 3 like Posey or Battier or Bobby Simmons..or Rodney White. And Tmac can do that too. Maybe we can develop someone to take Jimmy's spot..he's still good for now..but he's getting older...

And at power forward..yes we need someone like Wilcox...

Well, in a previous thread a couple of weeks ago, I posted a thread discussing the fact that Cleveland are desperately trying to give up Dujan Wagner for almost nothing, something like a second-round pick or something like that. If we can get a guy like that with next to nothing, especially since he has proven in the past that he can be a pretty good scorer at PG, it would be a great move for our team.

    Just a suggestion...

I guess JVG doesn't feel Dre fits.

I don't like small guards. I think AI is too small...and AI is bigger than Dre

the reason we need a PG is because JVG cannot let go of Ward - I mean, they put Barrett on the IR to activate JVG's main man, then he plays 6 mins and goes back on the IR... only problem, with the Lue trade - Barrett is the only backup - but he has to sit for 5 games per NBA rules.

on another note - since we need scoring from the 1 spot - I kind of like the PG by committe (ie. playing 3 shooting guards instead of a 1,2,3 punch) that way at least SOMEONE besides Tmac should be able to score!!!

Yah, I must confess that JVG's loyalty to Ward baffles me at times. The guy clearly is an overpaid, underachieving, old player. JVG's recent comments that seem to paint Ward as the savior of this team trouble me also.

I always thought of JVG as an unemotional realist (which I like as a general character in the business world). But I think with Ward that realism disappears. Kinda of bothers me a bit...

I'm holding out hope that New Orleans is going to go into full dump mode and want to unload Baron Davis for expiring contracts, plus draft picks.

Not to the rockets. We cant afford him and they will be some high picks not mid first rounders from the rockets. Pipe Dream.

David Wesley is 1 month YOUNGER than JJ. Everyone knew Boki was in JVG's doghouse. Boki was a non-factor.

Yao's actually having a great December. 21 pts, 11 rebs, 2.5 blocks and over 50% from the field.

    Ewing needs a raise. :p

CD should inquire about Jay Williams. The Bulls have already said that they refuse to resign him and I'm sure he'll come pretty cheap considering the fact that he survived a life threatening injury. The Rox are one of the more desperate teams in need of a PG so why not take a risk on this guy? He could become the player he was at Duke and hopefully better. Thats my two cents.

Good post. I was wondering what the deal with him was. Is he ready to play or still in rehab from his injury? Also, the Blazers have Stoudamire and Van Exel (I counted 7 active guards on their roster) maybe we could swing a deal with them for one of our PF's?? Just a thought.
