This actually is a problem in New York. And its been a problem for decades. The merit based system to get into the top high schools in NYC has basically created a massive inequality among public high schools there. The quality of education has to actually be equitable but NYC's system means that kids go out of their way to fight for a select group of schools (which in turn means those schools can recruit the best teachers, staff, etc..)

This was one of the first things I noticed when I moved to Minneapolis. There are plenty of inequities here but the quality of schooling is just higher across the board here. For example, there are more public high schools that offer IB programs than in Houston which is silly given that the MSP metro is half the size of Houston.

When I grew up in Houston, this was a problem as well as Asian parents really only viewed a handful of public high schools as acceptable but to get into those high schools required the magnet test/lottery OR finding a way to obtain an address within the school zone (used to be common that parents just rented some cheap apartment to establish residency while living somewhere else).

Anger should be focused on the fact that in order to get a quality public education in NYC, you have to engage in a merit exam death match with thousands of other students. That to me is at the heart of why the American public school system is just so backwards.

    Bingo.

    School System and Parents.
However, if the parents don't care about their kids getting into good schools then that obviously affects the numbers the most.

What they need is the breakdown of students who actually took the test.

This is what people think is going on:

Percentage of kids taking the test:

    Asian 20%
    White 20%
    Black 20%
    Latino 20%
    Other 20%

We know that's probably not the case.

Mn schools might be high achieving in general but MN has some of the worst racial achievement gaps.

Oh we're awful when it comes to the achievement gap. Frankly, Minneapolis's segregation overall is on another level and the schools in North Minneapolis are deplorable. But the schools (especially schools in rural Minnesota) overall are just light years ahead of much of Texas. When you look at factors like class sizes, funding, infrastructure, etc.. its just so much more equitable.

    The only thing that matters.

Asians need a quota for that one though. Pacific Islanders don't count. :(

I've noticed that many of these people in these positions forgot about basic Economics class for Supply and Demand.

Not every parent wants their kid to be an elite academic school. Also not every student cares about these tests.
The parents who want their kids in these elite schools also want their kids to be in a top college and not community college .

For example, say there's a high school cricket team and it was 90% Indian and 10% Non Indian. Would their be outrage that there aren't Black/Latino/White/East Asians? and no girls?

People should care about math and science, but doesn't mean that a high percentage does.

Did anyone else expect a 'Chancellor' to only be a stuffy old white guy?

The big guys have known that the best way for them to rule is to divide and conquer. So sad that relatively ordinary folks like Os and Tinman so eagerly fall for it..

The students who got the good grades aren't big guys.
They are boys and girls. I don't know how big they are, but doubt they are fat.

    Good Grades > Bad Grades

Division is easy. It's part of math. So if you can divide you can multiply, and more advanced you can do calculus and algebra.
I'm sure that's on these test to get into these schools.

It just takes studying and parents who tell their kids that do well in school > than putting glue in your hair on TikTok to impress your friends

There's unspoken shade upper class wipipo have against Asians taking those spots at elite academys. Some feel their kids are outcompeted or won't have "normal childhoods" if they push them like Tiger Moms. It's the same type of people who love "legacy" admissions but poo poo against quotas.

Microaggressions increase parabolically when you enroll in a predominantly white school. White fright?

    Congrats to these kids!

@glynch doesn't congrats them cause they know how divide, and multiply, and statistically be productive citizens and probably won't be criminals

If KID A gets better grades than KID B because he/she studied hard and gets into that school

I can't wait when sports is not based on physical abilities but based on written test to play sports...
