Honestly, however lame the joke may be, I don't see what's racist about it. The joke says nothing and assumes nothing about people based on their race as far as I can tell. Maybe there's a hidden message in there I'm not seeing.

Google can help there. CP Time (colored people's time) is a term often used by the black community as a joke about black people being late (which apparently is a stereotype of black people).

Yeah, I saw that in the article. I guess people feel its making light of the stereotype, even if it is not directly promoting or affirming it. If its used as a joke within the black community, I don't get why referencing it should be so alarming.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is facing some criticism for joking about "CP time" while performing in a comedic sketch alongside Hillary Clinton at a charity event over the weekend.

During Inner Circle's annual event in New York City that includes musical and comedy performances by local politicians and reporters, Clinton made a surprise cameo during a scripted scene with de Blasio and Leslie Odom Jr., who plays Aaron Burr in the Broadway show “Hamilton.”

Clinton joked with de Blasio about how long it took him to endorse her for president, to which the New York City mayor (and Clinton's former Senate campaign manager) quipped back, “Sorry, Hillary. I was running on CP time." The remark is an apparent reference to colored people time -- a phrase sometimes used as a stereotypical reference to black people supposedly being late to everything.

In a video of the skit, released by the mayor's office on Sunday night, the audience appears to laugh awkwardly at the remark. One man in the crowd can be heard shouting, “No!"

"That’s not -- I don’t, I don’t like jokes like that, Bill,” Odom, who is African-American, said.

Clinton then interjected. “Cautious politician time," she explained. “I’ve been there.”

De Blasio, whose wife is black, explained the joke during an interview on CNN on Monday night. "It was clearly a staged show. It was a scripted show. The whole idea was to do the counter-intuitive by saying cautious politician time. Every actor thought it was a joke on a different convention. That was the whole idea," he said. "I think people are missing the point here."

It was a harmless joke in poor taste by politicians with a long history of support for minorities that is quite unlike your disgusting and well known positions on race.

I mean who do you think is buying your crap any more? Why bother? It's just sad at this point.

Referencing them and mocking them is a way of helping people see how stupid and ridiculous they are. Maybe you would understand if you suffered from any kinds of stereotypes.

Take rednecks for instance. Most people deride rednecks as ignorant racists who think they can put a quote from MLK in their sig as some sort of defense shield against their own hypocrisy.

But if I said, see there - that goes that darn redneck, with their freaking BMW and corporate lawyer job. So typical. That would be referencing a stereotype in a way to defeat it. But according to your logic, that would be wrong since even mentioning a stereotype makes one a racist.

You are the definition of PC run amok.

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton pushed blame onto New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for the racially tinged skit the two performed at an event last weekend.

"Well, look, it was Mayor de Blasio's skit. He has addressed it, and I will really defer to him because it is something that he's already talked about," Clinton told Cosmopolitan in an interview published Tuesday when asked if she thought the joke was "inappropriate."

In a skit at an annual New York City press dinner performed by Clinton and de Blasio, Clinton thanked de Blasio for his endorsement, but added: "Took you long enough."

"Sorry, Hillary, I was running on C.P. time," de Blasio responded.

"C.P. time" commonly means "colored people time," a term used as a stereotypical excuse for African-Americans running late.

"Hamilton" star Leslie Odom Jr. responded: "I don't like jokes like that."

Then Clinton delivered the punchline: "Cautious politican time."

The two politicians came under fire for the skit, which followed a controversy over former president Bill Clinton's defense of his wife's "superpredator" remark and argument with Black Lives Matter protesters.

De Blasio told CNN on Monday that the skit was "clearly staged."

"It was a scripted show. The whole idea was to do the counterintuitive by saying 'cautious politician time.' Every actor thought it was a joke on a different convention. That was the whole idea. I think people are missing the point here," he said.

His office also released a statement later saying that the skit was only meant to poke fun at the mayor himself, according to NBC News.

"In an evening of satire, the only person this was meant to mock was the mayor himself, period. Certainly no one intended to offend anyone," the statement said.

President Obama's top spokesman Josh Earnest on Tuesday defended de Blasio and Clinton, saying the two have "demonstrated a genuine commitment to the pursuit of equality and justice and civil rights." But he said he had not himself heard the joke.

“I can’t speak to any misguided attempts at humor,” he said. “I can only speak to their commitment they have shown over the course of their career to justice and civil rights," he told reporters.
