    didn't see this posted.

This is a really cool audio scouting report by JVG on how the NBA teams are defending various superstars.

Wow, that was really cool. I like the x's and o's stuff, especially coming from JVG.

BTW, Jeff..has a very..halting way...of narrating...those clips. (Yeah, that was kind of a Seinfeld reference too.)

JVG sounds computerized. Great find. Bonzi got plenty of layup/dunk opportunities under Adelman's offense after his man left him to double Yao when he cut to the basket.

Very cool. It's interesting to here some stuff on defensive schemes, because no one ever talks about it.

I don't know if I agree that Yao is the most efficient low post guy though. He's close, but he's such a high turnover guy I'm not sure he's there.

These are fantastic, and it is the kind of multimedia stuff that the Chronicle should be doing.

Don't agree with the Ray Allen defense. I don't think this would stop him. You stop Ray Allen by putting a man on him period like Bruce Bowen or Battier and play tough man-man defefnse.

Yeah, and we all saw how we slowed the Suns down last year? Gimme a break.

Yao defense leaves everybody else open if you move the ball around.

i saw a blog entry at the Times written by the head of the multimedia dept. He says they have a staff of 25 people. me thinks the chronicle doesn't have that type of money. Heck, I can barely get their Feigen vids to play. I don't know why they refuse to use youtube's bandwidth.

How many teams have a defensive stopper along the lines of Bowen and Battier?

He said don't ever go under the pick. He's describing a man-man defense with the screeners defender showing to Allen to help his man catch up with him from the screen.

    That's called a double team.

This reminds me of the Xavier protocols. If anyone has any idea what that means please acknowledge it before I feel too nerdy.

The best way to guard Yao is a quick hard double teaming to back him down on his heels. Fronting is also effective.

JVG knows his stuff. In the Lakers game on Sunday, Odom was at the line at the end of the game and JVG said that the Mavericks should not have Brendan Bass matched up with Kobe for rebounding because Kobe is too good at the getting the offensive rebound off missed free throws. And what do you know, Odom misses the free throw, and Kobe is able to maneuver around Bass for the rebound. It's amazing how he was able to call it like that.

Boggles the mind.....I was thinking the same thing, why they are not using YouTube and embedding the link...

They do pay Anna Megan though and a video editor......doing multimedia stuff is not that hard to do, methinks they don't know how to do it...and are still just stretching out from the ole Print days.

As for the topic, thanks a lot for posting these, I wish there was more stuff like this online for people to see....and discuss.

JVG does know his stuff, but you have to wonder if he didn't feel at least a tad ironic when talking about stopping the Suns... ;)
