I know these things happened...some even in my lifetime, but I also understand that we tend to judge a thing by it's past and ignore what it is trying to do. And I can't, for the life in me (maybe this is my fault), see what the agenda is for Islam.

And I agree, God is a fact and Religion is a myth (in a "truth" way).

    or 300 years after...but who's counting???!!! :D

when it became the state religion of an empire, the church lost its focus and purpose in a huge way. before, it was absolutely counter-cultural...as an alternative to the empire.

This can be considered more of a cultural indignation than a religious one.

Framing this as an indictment against Islam is cliched and a waste of time.

I think it's more the issue of a judicial system being corrupt maybe. Some countries would probably look at abortion the same way as we are looking at this.

Would you be referring to old testament law?

Does Somalia even have a judicial system? That country seems more like something out of Mad Max (the movie not the Rocket or the Clutchfans poster) than an actual state.

FYI...... it does not state anywhere in the Quran to stone anyone... I like how the article made it appear as though it does, keeping to the trend.

    Bosh,

But apparently it is part of the legal code of Shirah.....so they got that from somewhere......or are you saying they are misinterpeting the Koran?

Also, how do Muslims deal with the Satanic versus? They were from Mohommed, right? What do the leaders say about those?

DD, I'm just pointing out that it isn't from the Koran..where they get it from I don't know. In Pakistan a girl was gang raped by 5 guys as punishment for getting caught having sex (wasn’t married... where'd they get this punishment from? Sharia law supposedly). These people are barbarians, they make their own rules as they see fit . I’m not very knowledgeable about Islam so I can't really say anything else, I'm just stating what I do know.

I really get tired of hearing about the Crusades... Do you really think they were Christians?

Here is the difference with what you're saying. Stoning an "adulteress" for being raped is part of Islamic Sharia Law. It says in their holy book to do that. Nowhere in the teachings of Jesus can some of the atrocious acts committed by Christianity be justified. There are evil people in every religion but there is an obvious problem when your holy book can condone that kind of behavior.

However the bible is both the old and new testaments and there are things in the bible which can be misrepresented to condone or inspire the actions done by bad Christians.

Nothing in Islam suggests that people do this, only the miscarriage of Islamic teachings would have that happen.

Most of the Crusaders were undoubtedly Christian. Or at least they truly believed they were. And that isn't the only example of Christians doing extreme hateful violent things in the name of Christianity.

I think the statement was one of condemnation of a horrible act with the filter of religion removed from it. The point is that all religions have people who will do horrible things, to use these incidents to try boast one religion is better than another, or decry one as definitively worse is missing the point.

The point is that it's a horrible thing that happened.

You bring up the satanic verses like you know something of the subject. I have heard nothing from "the leaders" concerning this topic, but the criticism concerning these verses is pretty straight forward; why in the world would God choose to unravel everything that he has emphasized throughout the prophet's revelations? It is completely contradictory and makes zero sense. The only people the verses benefit are the enemies of the religion. All signs point to foul play and misinformation.

For this reason, I believe "the leaders" choose not to say anything concerning this topic, it is fabricated.

btw, why did you bring this up???
