I thought this article was interesting. It would be hard to believe that Houston might be interested in Larry Brown as a coach, even though many would have preferred him a couple years ago over JVG. At this point, IMHO, JVG is a bit more stable, and will probably get us to the promised land, and stay there for a bit ...

Isiah Thomas will meet face-to-face with Larry Brown, possibly as early as today, about becoming the Knicks' next head coach.

Garden spokesman Barry Watkins confirmed yesterday that Thomas and Brown had a telephone conversation on Tuesday and that the two were expecting to sit down sometime "within the next few days."

The first issue that needs to be addressed is whether Brown is ready to return to the bench next season. Brown's agent, Joe Glass, said yesterday that his client is still contemplating whether he should sit out for a year and rest. Brown, 64, who has recurring health problems, has had an exhaustive schedule the past two years because of his Olympic obligations and because he reached two consecutive NBA Finals with the Detroit Pistons.

"That's true, he hasn't decided what he wants to do," Glass said.

The Knicks are prepared to offer Brown a five-year contract worth between $50 million and $60 million. If Brown decides to sit out one year, the same offer would presumably be available to him next summer. However, the Knicks will also be competing with several teams for Brown's services.

A player agent familiar with Brown's thinking said that one possible scenario could have the Knicks hiring Brown as a consultant for one season and then have him coach the team next year. Ideally, that is not the road the Knicks would want to go down, but it's something they would strongly consider if it means locking up Brown.

Brown could take two to six weeks to decide if he wants to coach, and the Knicks - who have been without a coach since late April - are willing to wait that long. The longer Brown debates his future, the likelihood of another team joining the bidding increases.

The Sacramento Kings currently have Rick Adelman under contract but that did not prevent the club from having a conversation with Phil Jackson before his return to the Lakers.

It's unlikely but not entirely impossible for teams like Dallas, Houston, the Nets and Cleveland to make a run at Brown, even though each of those four already has a coach signed to a long-term contract.

Mavs owner Mark Cuban said via E-mail that he doesn't see other teams pursing Brown this summer.

"Not really," Cuban wrote. "The reason is primarily due to cost."

doubt it, we just signed him to a extention, hell, that was a sign that we passed up the Zen master to lock Van Gundy up for an additional year.

EDIT: Well, at least he implicitly admits it's crap. But then, why bring it up in the first place?

right. if we passed on phil (a better fit for our roster) then we will pass on brown.

the problem with him is that he leaves after 2 or 3 years. we want about 6 championships.

Exactly. Brown isn't interested in coaching anybody long-term. If rings was what he wanted, he'd have stayed in Detroit and kept at it. The man is simply a flake, and teams that have no need for a dramatic, immediate shake-up would be shooting themselves in the foot by hiring him.

We can always have JVG getting us 2 championships, then Phil Jackson getting 2 for Rockets, then Larry Brown getting another 2 championships for Rockets. :D

this just goes to show you that just because someone can write an article doesnt mean they know their bum from a hole in the ground.

I would put the possibility of pursuing Brown at just a little less likely than us pulling off a KG for expriring contracts trade.

hi there edc. Glad to see your short sighted closed minded self came back to make more ridiculous statements. It just wasn't the same without you.

Tell me, is it tough knowing that in the 2 plus years that Van Gundy has now been with the team, that he has almost completely corrected the past mistakes of Rudy?

Does it make it hard to bash a man who is having success, or is it pretty easy for you to look past the facts?

hell no!!! the LAST coach i want in the entire world is larry brown. yeah, we need a guy who's loyalty level is lower than terrell owens and will talk about coaching the knicks while coaching in the nba finals. i don't want our organization to be the latest dumping ground for larry.

It's been quite a week for the VanGundy boys. They apparently need to get themselves some rings!

Just kidding. I wanted Larry Brown 2 years ago, but I think any coaching change now would set back our team. JVG has done a good job and last year he showed me that he's more flexible than I would have ever imagined.

    This speculation is ridiculous.

i don't know where the press comes up with this crap, even mentioning Houston in the same sentence with Larry Brown. Believe that there has been absolutely no communication betweeb Les/CD and LB. I bet Les doesn't even send the guy b-day or xmas cards.
