These guys are absolutely amazing. They are so blinded by the love of the gun, they think even those suspected of terrorism should be allowed the right to bear arms and carry guns.

Just goes to show you that people who love thier guns care more about the gun then anyone's life. Really disturbing.

How do you become a "suspected terrorist" ?

Sounds a little too J. Edgar Hoover for me...

This is stupidity. We have no qualms about torture, extraordinary rendition, warrantless wiretaps, and a whole host of other constitutional liberty questions, but prohibiting suspected terrorists from acquiring guns is ruled out because of the possibility of mistaken identity and the need to be conservative about rolling back constitutional protections.

Actually, I bet if any of those other things you mentioned affected guns in any way, I bet the NRA would come out against them too.

Actually, the ACLU, among others, is very active (though of course not very successful) in trying to defend these other constitutionaly guaranteed rights. I don't think you can say that 'we have no qualms' about giving these things up.

Wait. What happened to the old mantra: "if you're not breaking the law, then why worry about it?"

Is this the terror watch list? If so, using it to ban gun sales is certainly Orwellian. Don't make an anti-Bush speech or you can't buy a gun.

The NRA is as predictable as a broken record. No surprise at all here. Would you expect them to support this?

It isn't all about guns themselves and gun rights of citizens. Much of it is about the profit in selling guns.

    BZZZZZ

NRA is about gun owners first. They squashed a Federal ban on limiting the liability of a firearms maker because congress attached an AWB renewal on it. If they only cared about money and not about gun owners they would have accepted the AWB.

That's interesting. Let's say the government does indeed ban gun sales to terror suspects. If someone without a criminal background were denied of a gun purchase, he would be certain he is on terrorist watch list.

I don't like this idea AT all. Since anyone can be classified as a terrorist, anyone can lose their right to buy protection. This country can to stray on the path of Rome if it is not careful.

I can not believe people here support allowing people who are on terrorist watch lists (because of ties with terrorist organizations) to buy guns, and the main opposition is the NRA.

Geez, the NRA would put guns in the hands of anyone possible. In fact, The NRA is to guns what the Tobacco companies are to cigarette.

NRA = death by firearm - they don't care as long as more guns are sold.

Big Tobacco - death by lung cancer - they don't care as long as more cigarettes are sold.

Why would the NRA - of all groups, be defending terrorists? Do you guys love your guns that much?

Read more carefully. I did NOT say the NRA "only cared about money and not about gun owners". I said gun dealers' profits are a MAJOR part of their agenda in addition to gun rights. If you don't believe this then you are free to be wrong.

I believe that this supposition (about what gets you put on the magic list) is not widely believed to be true. I don't think many people have quite the level of trust that you do in the Bush Administration and their 'War on Terror'. That would be the starting point for why the responses are not what you expected.

Just guessing, but there would be 2nd amendment issues if the government decided certain militia groups were terror suspects.

If the terror watch list is the same as the no-fly list I would have some problems with this. I'm not for more or easier access to guns but gun ownership still is a Constitutionally protected right. As long as it is so I don't think its a good idea to deny people a Constitutional right based on a very subjective list where you often can't even find out why you were on it.

of course you are right, but since when did this administration give a crap about the concept of innocent until proven guilty?

So we can suspend Habeus Corpus, the right to an attorney, the right to a trial, being held without an accusation, but if we ban the sale of guns, we have gone to far? Only in America.
