The failure of the PS3 is really hitting you hard. I'm worried about your mental well being.

Maybe you can become a spiky haired, gender-ambiguous Japanese teen and then talk through your emotions in cut scenes while on some 45-hour fetch quest punctuated by turn based combat sequences.

Why can't you just enjoy whatever games you like playing and leave the others out of it? RPGs don't exactly lose money in the States.

I was just laughing at CYF running in to deflect the spotlight from the PS3. Per usual.

It's cool. It's been some time since I've sat down with a RPG but I love them all the same. I think it's comparable to the experience of reading a novel. Wheather it is turn or time based commands, there is a level of strategy with short and long term planning that you can not find in other games.

I'm not trying to say genre is better than another. I've played more shooters in the last couple years than anything else.

You guys need to put the RPG hatred aside and pick up Knights of the Old Republic. You won't regret the 18 or so (i can't remember) hours it takes to beat. You can prob get through it quickly if you skip all the side quests but who wouldn't want to become the most badass jedi possible?

I love KOTOR and KOTOR2 - have them both. JPRG's and MMORPG's Ican't really stomach.

does Marvel Alliance count as a RPG? I like those RPGs.
Also, in Call of Duty 4.. you can use your RPG to shoot down copters!

    RPG! RPG!

Not sure. I never played it.

Word is the PS3 only costs 400 for sony to produce now. I wonder once Blu-Ray wins out if that will lead to an increase production in drives and then a reduction in production cost. Sony is hoping to get back in the black this coming fiscal year but there December sales can't be too encouraging.

I think it would be smart for sony to market a 3rd party hard drive so the mass is aware that if they get a ps3, they can upgrade it. I'm not sure a super high percentage of existing owners know that.

I'm not sure the 360 will think about lowering it's prices anytime soon. Doesn't seem like they need it to move systems. I guess it depends on if sales slow down (as it was discussed in RC's thread).

This is all filler until the GDC.

alliance is now one of the thrown in games for the 360 and you can buy it new and cheap for like $20 since its an old game.

Yes it does (AFAIK anyway). It isn't your typical RPG (by western or Japanese standards), but it more or less fills the requirements. At the very least, it is an action game with RPG elements.

Mostly basing this off the time I spent with X-men Legends, although I'm assuming things aren't too different in Marvel Alliance.

I wonder how much the Blu-ray stuff even costs right now. Costs drop like a rock shortly after the PS3 launched. Wonder how much they can continue to drop? I'd guess that most of the cost reduction will come from the other components. Sony's been extremely aggressive on cutting costs, so I wouldn't doubt that they would be able to reduce costs by quite a bit 6-12 months from now. Whether they want to pass that on to the customers or pocket that extra money as profit is up to them (although they may not have much of a choice).

Not sure how this would really affect things to be honest.

Yeah, there isn't quite as much pressure on the 360 to cut its price, although they probably will be able to do one somewhat soon if they wanted to (PS3 and 360 both have 65nm GPUs coming up soon IIRC, if not done already). Only reason I'd think they'd do one is if the PS3 gets yet another price drop, or if they feel pressure to react to sales in Europe (although in that case, they would probably just adjust prices in Europe).

I have a feeling this year the PS3 will sell more in the US than 360, it is already selling more WW, and with "American" games like MGS and Resistance 2 there should be more demand.

I can give you rough numbers from Japan and the US combined (LTD numbers from both regions):

    ~12M Wii
    ~10M 360
    ~5M PS3

Canada sales are probably 8%-10% of US sales (general trends are about the same IIRC, although I haven't paid much attention lately). Sales from Europe (and other places) are a little hard to get (although it goes like this I believe: Wii > 360 >= PS3, so the overall order should be about the same).

I think it will be hard to outsell the 360 in the US (the world is another story of course). I think people might be overestimating MGS's impact. It is a big franchise, particularly one that has a global impact, but I'm not sure it is some huge seller that could really help a system in the US (again, as if any one game could). I do see a LOT of people use it as a possible reason to get a PS3, so who knows. I'd love to be proven wrong on that since I love the franchise and think it deserves all the praise it can get.

Didn't realize this, but Resistance hasn't even cracked 1M units (on PS3) in the US (COD4 will probably beat it, which sort of pains me). Not sure it will really have much of an impact by itself either, but again, who knows.

In order for the PS3 to sell well in the US (or in any region really), it will need to have number of AAA games in a number of different genres, just like what made the PS1 and PS2 successful. MGS4 and Resistance 2 won't do it, but if they can supplement them with many other great games (GT5, LBP, MotorStorm 2, MLB 08, WKS, Killzone 2, Infamous, etc.), then that will certainly help things. Of course, other factors would be involved (Home, PS3's price, Blu-ray, what the 360 is doing, PSN, etc.). I think 2008 does look good for them, and if things go there way, they could certainly turn things around. But it won't be easy.

you and tinmans obsession is starting to become creepy. you turned a joke i made into some fanboy fantasy of yours. if you have a problem with me, be a man and admit it. don't need to hide behind the system wars as your excuse to make rude remarks. :D

    1. COD4 is a league above Resistance. Resistance is good for a launch title, but nothing spectacular. i would've definitely purchased cod4 on my pc instead of ps3, but i am sick of the cheaters. that's what ruined CS for me, over half the people i played online were using aimbot or wall hack. the funny part is when they talk trash like their good.

    2. i think marketing and viral marketing ala microsoft would be more efficient. sad part is, i don't remember any system war spawning so many fanboys. you'll even have people who know nothing about gaming give you their useless opinions. i guess this proves how mainstream/popular gaming has become.
