I'm curious to see the September numbers when the PS3 slim has been available for the whole month. The sales have exploded in Japan and Europe, and unofficially key retailers have reported a huge uptick since the price drop in the US. With the fall slate of PS3 games and God of War 3 in March, I think the PS3 is about to surge.

I think it's impressive the 360 outsold the PS3 last month after the $100 price cut on the ps3 fats for like 8-9 days and the release of the slim.

I guess the sales of the fats don't really count for much because supply really was constraint to make way for the surprise release of the slim. I'm interested to see how well the ps3 slim sales will sustain. In Japan, they only had a 60% sell through rate on the first week of sales. With the release of the slim + price cut + new Gundam game, I thought they would've done better, although 150k isn't nothing to sneeze at either.

I wonder if the ps3 will be able to make a comeback this late in the game with the re-branding/release of the slim. FF13 and GT5 is going to help sales in Japan, but what they really need is more support from Japanese developers. I think TOV is being released later this month, which should provide a small boost...I'm guessing 80-100k in sales for the first week and it'll probably fall off the charts after that, lol.

GT5 is going to help sales in more than just Japan

It was only for a few days that the price drop was there. Plus there are probably more than a few people that waited for the Slim. I think the September numbers will be more indicative of how much it helped. Guess we'll see, but I have to think they're going to market games like Uncharted 2 and Ratchet pretty hard. The again the marketing hasn't been al that great.

I might be wrong, but isn't it the highest the PS3 has sold in a week in Japan? I thought launch week was the highest, and that was probably 100K-150K (supply-constrained of course). Certainly not bad. Of course, I didn't have any predictions, so I'm not disappointed. Had I thought about it prior to launch, I might have pegged it higher than 150K too. I didn't even know it was released with a new Gundam game until recently.

Probably no comeback in NA, but depending on how long the generation goes on, they can definitely turn things around in Japan and Europe. Of course, this only refers to a comeback relative to the 360. I know this has been said for quite a while, but that's just because neither system has really done that well (IMO) in either region (more so Japan than Europe...360 is doing pretty good in UK IIRC).

They really do need more games for the Japanese market though. Sony hasn't had a problem releasing the occasional major release, resulting in a relatively good sales spike. But then nothing else of interest is released anytime soon, so sales dip back to 10K-15K. I guess it would help if Sony themselves did a bit better job. Insomniac has probably made just as many PS3 games as SCEJ. As awesome as GT5 and The Last Guardian will likely be, SCEJ needs to do a better job in Japan.

I'm actually really curious to see how GT5 performs. GT used to be a really big franchise (bigger than Gears, Halo, COD, etc. IIRC), and one that actually sold very well in every region. I kind of get the sense that it may not be as popular anymore though (at least in NA). Guess we'll find out.

At least their new ads look pretty good. Hopefully that will help sales of those games, which they deserve. Given the quality of the games, the previous entries really should have sold a lot more. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Relative to the 360, PS3 SW sales actually look pretty decent for August. Then again, you only have two titles to look at (one of which has a PS3 exclusive feature I believe), and the economy probably isn't helping things either (OK, so maybe PS3 SW sales don't take as big of a hit as 360 SW sales?).

edit: Oh wait...just saw top 20 rankings, and no PS3 games in 11-20. Yeah, I thought so... :(
