I realize it's old news but the numbers for sales of the Wii and DS continue to amaze me. Nintendo is beating the snot out of Sony and MS. The September numbers should be interesting since it will reflect a full month of the 360 price reduction.
Dude, with a hurricane on the way, not even me who likes video games gives a **** about the sales.. anyways where the **** have you been? lol haven't seen you post in a while
I also don't really care much about the sales for similar reasons, which is why I posted this 4-5 hours late. I've posted a little bit here and there, but there hasn't been much going on in the VG world IMO (except for some nice games coming out). I've been a little more busy with school starting too, but that doesn't normally affect things too much.
XBox 360 continues to outsale PS3. Sony needs to do something soon, unless they want to be the gamecube of this generation. The downside is that once again it shows that getting to the market first is more important than having a superior system.
Not necessarily true. Wii was released at the same time the ps3 was and it's whipping both hd consoles. What's interesting is the PSP sales. A hand held that was considered a flop has been picking up steam.
IMO, the lack of a cheaper SKU and the lack of backwards compatibility is what's killing them. If they fixed those things, I'd have to think they'd be ahead... the problem is they believe the Blu-ray thing will do all their work for them, and that just isn't the case.
Have you been checking out sales lately? Don't have the numbers in front of me right now, but the PS3 has been outselling the 360 in the US for the last 5-6 months or so IIRC. This is the first month the 360 has outsold the PS3 in a while, although given the sales gap, you might as well say they've sold about the same (of course, that is true for most of the previous months, not counting June, when MGS4 came out). I think YTD numbers for the US are probably about the same between the two (maybe even in favor of the PS3), although again, not 100% since I don't have numbers in front of me. Of course, with the price cut for the 360, I would assume that the 360 would pull ahead for the rest of the year (barring some similar move by Sony of course).
Maybe using continues not the greatest term there, but I'm just amazed that system that's out as long as it has can out sell PS3, given that I think PS3 is a stronger system techwise. As far Wii, it's a different animal. A totally awesome different direction.
The system capabilities aren't enough to put it any higher than it has in recent months IMO, especially given Sony's marketing at times. Maybe slightly ahead like it has been doing, but by itself, it isn't enough to have it continually outsell the 360 every month no matter what. At near-equal prices, I'd expect the two to do about the same in the US, barring the release of some major exclusive AAA game (ala MGS4). And of course, price drops and/or new SKUs would affect things a bit as well (360 got a minor boost due to this in August, although I'd expect it to get a much bigger boost in September). I don't think Sony will be ahead of MS in the price battle anytime soon, so the PS3 won't have that as an advantage (actually, it will be a disadvantage). I think even if Sony continues to stay aggressive on pricing and continues to put out a bunch of great games, it would be difficult for the PS3 to continually outsell the 360 in the US, especially if we're talking about a gap bigger than say 50K (no use in saying one system sold so much better than the other when only 20K-30K separate them). It would basically take a huge screwup on the part of MS to allow for that to happen IMO. Now if you want to talk about worldwide sales... Actually, speaking of worldwide sales, I read something about NPD and some other sales-tracking companies from Europe and Japan considering a greater collaboration when it comes to global sales. It seems like there might be some monthly reports for global sales in the future, although I don't know if they'd be made public. If they are, this would be pretty nice. We already have access to the numbers separately more or less, but it would be nice to have them all in one place.
