Because Yao now has a book deal

Book Him: Miramax Books Secures Deal For Yao Ming's Memoir

    Miramax Books Yao For Memoirs

Miramax Books has acquired worldwide rights, except in Asia, to a memoir by Rockets C Yao Ming, according to Gabriel Snyder of DAILY VARIETY, who notes Miramax "is aiming for a fall 2004 publication date." ESPN Magazine senior writer Ric Bucher will co-write. Terms were not disclosed, but a source said that "it was a seven-figure deal." Brillstein-Grey Entertainment exec Jonathan Liebman, whose firm helped broker the deal with Miramax, said, "It's a coming-to-America story about a talented young man from another culture who becomes one of the most recognizable figures in the world in the space of a year." Liebman added that Miramax "won out ... because he was looking for a general-interest publisher that would not pigeonhole Yao's tale as a sports book." The memoir will also "delve into the political and economic forces that helped bring" Yao to America (DAILY VARIETY, 5/30). More Liebman: "I've been pursuing this project for some time. It's a story that extends beyond basketball" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/30).

so is he going to write it in cantonesse/mandarin (sorry about the spelling) and get it translated, or will he have a "ghost writer" that puts his "words" to paper?

hopefully it will be an interesting read... not that will be published here in Oz :( I'll have to wait for exerts to be "published" here instead (like i had to do with "The Punch")
