Which team impressed you the most with their week 1 performance...even though we all know that it is very rare for the team that is hot at the beginning of the season to sustain it througout the season...... My pick is the Detroit Lions. Roy W. is a great addition, giving Harrington a nice weapon, and their defense is getting tough. Can the Mooch actually give this longtime doormat some heart? I wish the Texans weren't playing them on the road next weekend. I think Detroit might thump them....especially if we have zero pass rush like we did against the Chargers.
Detroit lost Charles Rogers possibly for the season. It actually has me wondering if I should drop Joey Harrington in a fantasy league. I may be wrong, but I think the Lions may struggle more as a result. The Titans are good, but they played a terrible team. Most impressive team in my opinion -- Cleveland. They shut down Jamal Lewis, put up 20 on their vaulted defense and they finally have a decent quarterback.
I agree with Clutch. The Browns were dissed by everybody coming into the season then handly beat the team everybody has picked to finish at the top of the division.
I was impressed with Washington. Their defense really picked it up this week. Also, the Eagles finally have a passing game -- dangerous. How vicious was that hit Eli Manning took. I replayed that like 50 times. That's a hit defensive players just dream about.
I can't wait for next Monday Night when the Eagles play the Vikings! What a shootout that could become! Go Eagles! BTW, that was Jerome McDougle who laid out Manning!
Very impressed with Denver, especially Quentin Griffin. Dude may be from OU, but he is so fun to watch. Reminds me a lot of Barry Sanders in his size, his ability to switch direction quickly, and his demeanor after he scores a TD, (always hands the ball to the ref like Barry did). Q is one of my favorites.
San Diego... Drew Brees impressed me. That pump fake he did on the last touchdown throw was impressive. He looked like a 10 year veteran out there checking off his receivers. Also LT is the real deal. I loved Cleveland whipping Baltimore. I didn't see that one coming at all. Did I hear right that Art Modell is no longer the Ravens owner? Agreed about QG. Even though he's a sooner, he's hard not to like. Also damn fun to watch. If he keeps playing like that, bronco fans will be saying "Clinton who??" If they aren't already.
Week One, last season: Buffalo 31, New England 0 I dont get too much outta the 1st week. Denver looks SOLID. Q rocks....and I drafted him in the 7th round!
I tried to tell people here about my Broncos. All this garbage that was being spewed by ESPN, Sean Salisbury, etc about the Chefs being the greatest thing since sliced bread, Shanahan on the hot seat, blah blah, was a joke. Just look at the Chefs' defense....it is the same as last year! Just because they dug up old fossil Gunther Cunningham to run it does not mean it is going to get "magically" better. Old Gunther isn't out there trying to tackle Griffin, Plummer, etc. But the Chefs' biggest problem is that they don't have a game-breaker at WR - they have Holmes and Gonzalez and that is about it on offense (Dante Hall if you count special teams). Sorry, but the punk who quit on us aka Eddie Kennison does not qualify as a game-breaker. I know it is just one game and my Broncs could suffer some catastrophic injuries, but this was a game that I had been waiting for awhile. Winning this one made my weekend, more so than seeing the Canes coming from behind to beat the Noles. Okay, enough about my team. I will go ahead and plug the Browns as well. I feel that they have some talent, so I wasn't completely shocked that they beat the Ravens. However, I never expected to see them win by 17 points.
You cannot tell who the contenders and pretenders are after the first week. Seen too many teams have a great first week and get hype, then fall into oblivion. I will say that the Seattle Seahawks have a much improved defense with the additions of Grant Wistrom and Bobby Taylor.
Manny, I think the broncos have a good shot at winning their division, but they aren't going too far in the playoffs if they make it there. Indy, NE, or Tennesee will dust em off if they happen to advance. I like their rb stable, but I'm still not convinced any of their rbs at this point can bring it vs the elite ds in the afc at this point. Their wrs ... bleh. Jake Plummer ... meh. Their d is improved but I would hardly call it great. Still - if you can make it into the playoffs anything can happen ... The chiefs d is defintitely a hinderance to them going anywhere, and the injuries to their offense right off the bat haven't helped too much either. I'd say the biggest surprises for me this week are Cleveland beating up on the Ravens, Houston losing to the chargers, and the dallas o looking pretty good.
