does this mean that Morey is going to concentrate on getting Ramon Sessions?

With the Francis TE, we've got the pieces to make it happen provided Sessions is willing to sign for around $5-6 mill per.

I suspect Morey has been waiting for the Rubio saga to complete and now he is going to see if he can get Sessions for reasonable money in a S&T deal with Milwaukee.

I would bet Sessions gets traded in a S&T deal that gives him an opt out after two years, which will give him the flexibility to up the anty if he does well. Milwaukee is Landry's home. Landry, another small contract (Lowry), and one of our prospects (JT or Chase) plus $3 million cash for Sessions makes sense for both teams.

What makes you think Morey was going after Rubio? I think the PG spot is pretty cemented with Brooks and Lowry. You have to remember Adlemen drafted brooks after watching him in Oregon for a couple years and they traded away the starting PG (Alston) in Brooks 2nd season and trusted him with the team. Brooks isnt going anywhere.

I think he'll go after Sessions in the same manner that he explores every trade scenario. Will he focus on Sessions as a primary target? Doubtful. Especially with all of the weapons that we would have to give up.

Going into 2010 FA, as the Rockets stand, provided the cap stays static:
The best of the next tier down, from the franchise player free agents, would be names like: Haslem, Miller, Darko, Harrington, Warrick, Camby, etc...

If the cap goes down, those estimates go down.

IMO, it's trades this season, or banking on the draft (aka staying pat).

Splitter can be offered more than the rookie scale next season:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=sheridan_chris&page=Rubio-090902
Splitter's current contract is said to be for €1.4M/yr. NBA equiv would be about $4M/yr.

There are a few drawbacks. Splitter has another year to go on his contract after this upcoming season. I couldn't find anything that suggested a buyout... Maybe chinese corporate sponsors could help this situation?

Parker hasn't had a good backup in a longtime. Giving Lowry to the Spurs...

I doubt it. Sessions is better than Lowry, but Kyle is a cheaper version of him. Trading for Sessions will cost us a lot IMO.

unless we can get Deron, CP3, Kirk. Let's just be satisfied with Brooks and Lowry the dynamic duo for next season.

Let's run for John Wall. :)

Knicks offer is $4M for 1 yr. Clippers are around $2.6M under the cap and can only offer that directly. Bucks don't want to go over the tax, yet might not want to lose him for nothing, ie might match. To make things more difficult Sessions would be BYC.

IMO, whoever can get their hands on a non-guaranteed contract like Atkins's, could make something happen.

In response to the one poster here, there were more than a few reports that Morey was after a draft pick sufficiently high enough in order to draft Rubio.

There could be some validity to the "now that Rubio is gone" theory. But if true, I would be split on how I think about it, somewhere between, Never give up, Morey, and, You should have moved on by now, Morey.

This is a really good chance to solidify the PG spot since Milwaukee obviously has no wish to add payroll. Sessions played well enough to earn a decent contract, he'd actually be a good addition, but not at the price jopatmc mentions.

Landry makes sense for Milwaukee, to be sure, and he probably wouldn't block a trade that would send him home (he can nix any trade involving him before Sepember 25, the anniversary of the day he signed an offer sheet with Charlotte).

There are BYC considerations, though, aren't there? Milwaukee could take back roughly half of Sessions' new 1st year salary, unless other contracts are involved that negate the difference (and I don't see other players on the Milwaukee roster that we should trade for).

Trade Barry at the same time to OKC or Memphis and send only Landry or Lowry + Taylor, and later address any new deficiencies in the roster, and maybe it's do-able.

I am convinced Morey, along with many other GMs, was attempting to pull a deal with Minny for Rubio because most of the NBA GMs think he is going to be really, really good.

And I never said Brooks was going anywhere. We played very successfully with the smaller backcourt of Lowry/Brooks in tandem for a lot of minutes last year. If Brooks stays, he would fit in just fine with Sessions.

Ramon Session is a pure point guard. He can set up, assist, finish, and yes, he can score when needed. He is superior to both Brooks and Lowry in running an offense. Brooks can score, which is great. But he has not been able to facilitate very effectively. Sessions can facilitate with the best of them right now. If the backcourt of Lowry/Brooks was successful, the backcourt of Sessions/Brooks will be even more successful and will move Brooks to even more of the scoring role in which he excels. Sessions will also move McGrady or whoever else is playing shooting guard to a primary scoring role instead of having to facilitate. Scoring is the role that Brooks, McGrady, and Scola should all be in.

Sessions is an upgrade to the team. If we can get him for $5-$6 mill, that represents value to Morey. I believe he would pull the trigger if he could gte Sessions for Landry and something else.

Chris Paul had not contributed to a WINNING team in his first two seasons.

Chris Paul also won rookie of the year and was averaging 17 and 8 in his sophomore season.

Jesus Christ. Lowry AND Landry for Sessions?

Do you understand how highly DM thinks of Lowry? He was supposably on a list of 5 players that were undervalued in the league that the Rockets were shooting for. Other than the trade offer you presented, I like the idea, If we can get him for cheap...

How does the Frances TE help us in acquiring Session? Are you talking about combining the TE with players (Landry, etc..) in exchange for Sessions? If so, thats not legal under the CBA. You are not allowed to combine a trade exception with player salaries for the purpose of matching salaries.

    Ummmm,

I am wondering if we could get it done with just Landry, trash, cash, and a future 2nd. Giving up Landry and Lowry would be tough. I'd have to think about it. But right now, I am convinced that Sessions is a top 7 point guard in the league, so I would probably think hard, and do the deal.

I don't see what the Clips or Knicks are going to offer Milwaukee that would be as simple, clean, and as much value as Landry, trash, cash, and a 2nd rounder though.
