Ok, I guess I had no luck with my offseason goals. The draft was great, but other than that, I am quite depressed.

    These were my goals:

Rockets' offseason tasks in order of priority:
    • Get rid of Cato under any circumstances.
    • Sign Chris Webber.
    • Re-Sign Hakeem.
    • Re-Sign Moochie and AirBullard.
    • Pick up the Langhi option for another year.
    • Trade for Bo Outlaw and Raef LaFrentz.

We did not get Webber and lost Hakeem [IMG].
These were my top two goals. Now PLEASE, PLEASE get rid of Cato and please try to use those exceptions to get Bo and Raef. I would feel very comfortable with Raef and Bo sharing the duty at C - you could use Collier (who is quite a big guy) to lean on Shaq and draw him out of the paint - Raef and Bo could hold their own against anyone else.

    Det,
    Sorry....oh well.

Time to believe in the youth movement.

    • Dump Cato
    • Sign MoT
    • Sign or S&T Shandon
    • Sign Marc Jackson
    • Use the trade exceptions to grab quality

I have no idea why anybody's as high on Marc Jackson as some of you.

He can't block shots, plays mediocre D, can't play in the post, can't shoot the 3, and is slow. 5 million for a little rebounding? No thanks.

I like your sig Haven [IMG] but alas, it seems at this point, the chances of acquiring him are slim and none [IMG] He'd be perfect for this team too.

This brings up an interesting question as well.

Should we use our precious cap space on a player we can likely have if we want in Marc Jackson, or save it for next offseason on LaFrentz?

I also would not mind signing Marc Jackson. He is not a good shotblocker, but he has good hands and is a decent rebounder. I wouldn't spend too much money on him, though, and would try to avoid committing to a long-term contract.

I think we should somehow try to sign and trade Shandon plus one of the exceptions for Bo or Raef. Then try to engineer a three-way involving Cato that brings us the other one of the two.

oh come on. i thought this raef to houston stuff was over. i mean now we are just going to give you raef for NO ONE? i mean, really.

dont you guys think about these things? i believe i read an article stating over 75% of all gms are NOT rocket fans. ok, it didnt list who, but theres a good chance issel is on there. 75% is kinda high. and even if he was a rocket fan, i mean if he doenst want to get fired he still cant do that deal. you know what i mean? hes got a boss too ya know.

so please please please (thats 3 pleases...i dont know if its possible to add a 4th) no more raef for exception/raef for cato/raef for KT and a 2nd rounder. you want quality, give some up.

    thanks.

tpl - good point. I probably have a minority opinion, but I'd suffer with Sabonis, Cato, Pig Miller & Collier as the center rotation if the expiring contracts would net La Frentz next summer.

One year contracts to Sabonis and Pig, Walt's expiring $5M, and the $1.5M from KT's Team Option should get us close to $10M. If $10M is not enough to get Raef (or at least be a player), then we're stuck for awhile with Cato. What do ya'all think will be Raef's open market value next summer?

It would be ironic if the Toronto picks we got for Dream played a part in an S&T for LaFrentz.

If you know/can guess that you are going to lose Raef after the season anyway, you might as well get a valuable trade exception plus a draft pick for him. Better than getting nothing.

    Thanks.

How long does Toronto have to give us the picks? Are they next year's picks, or one of those deals where they have until 2006?

But realistically, if the Nuggets were to trade LaFrentz, they could get better quality than some picks and Cato.

But they wont trade him. They will wait and see, and perhaps try to work out a sign and trade next season if he really wants to go. no rush for Denver.

i never said that but how does that help a raef-for-nothing trade? i mean, every situation is different and in this one, these deals have no chance.

det/smz ; why do we have to trade him NOW? if raef is gone for sure (which is completely wrong), then we can still wait...we can get more from at least 10 other teams EASILY and why would we basically give him to a divisional rival.

assume raef is gone and we just wont sign him at all and our owner says give him away for nothing. at the very least, he goes to a east team. and this is the most absurd situation. throw in logic and common sense and it makes any deal an impossibility.

    nomar; good post!

I think Shandon and the No. 1 pick and the No. 2 pick should be enough to land LaFrentz (maybe a few months into the season, when the Nuggets have already stunk it up again and when he clearly indicates he wants to leave). I would definitely think that LaFrentz is worth it.

You sound a bit like a homer. From what I've heard, LaFrentz is very, very likely to leave Denver. Suppose he walked up to Denver's GM in the middle of the season and said "You know, this team loses, I hate the coach, and want to play elsewhere. Trade me now, or I walk. BTW, here's a list of teams." How much leverage does Denver really have? LaFrentz probably isn't going to be quite good enough for a "rent a player" deal. No team's going to trade for him without the belief that he'll re-sign.

You underestimate the leverage that players have in today's market. If someone wants to leave... he'll probably be gone. If he wanted to come to Houston, Denver wouldn't have a choice.

I personally don't think the deal would involve Cato. The most likely deal, imo, would be KT, Anderson, + picks for Lafrentz. That would give the Nuggets some value.

honestly, why would we trade raef for anderson and two terrible picks when it leaves us smaller with only raef and willis up front, and we have a ton of sg/sf and those picks are useless garbage?

if we had to trade him wed trade him to one of at least 10 other teams who could easily get us more than that!

    your completely insane.

    Oh, one question.

If Oeilpere says a trade for Lafrentz is possible, then I believe him.

Assuming that Francis, Griffin, and Mobley are untouchable, who would you guess the Nuggets would ge tin return? Take the trade as a given, momentarily. Just curious for your perspective...

    **shaking head in disgust**

give me a damn break. me a homer? for shooting down completely terrible ideas that will never happen? its not even like they are close or 'maybes'.

listen, im not even going to mention that 'raef probably leaves' is wrong. ill even assume its true just for the hell of it.

what im saying is that these deals are terrible. if we have to trade him ITS NOT TO HOUSTON. there are 27 other teams. if he gave us a list, wed still have leverage cuz most likely those teams cant sign him...very few could! so the rest who want him can fight for him and wed get more than the garbage you guys want to give us.

i mean, cato? that terrible contract? rather let him walk! think about it! SA? hed sign for something big too and we have NO USE FOR HIM! KT? please... those picks? useless!

we could trade him to an east team and get maybe one decent player we could actually use and a slightly better pick WITHOUT EVEN TRYING.

    Answer the hypothetical.

You're sounding increasingly hysterical. And you're beginning to overvalue Lafrentz, as well.

How much is the guy worth? Do you expect to get an Allan Houston for him? Anderson and Thomas are both decent players. Draft picks are valuable. You need to calm down.
