Anyone got any clever date ideas for a Wednesday night in Houston? (Note: not a first date.) Say, forty, fifty bucks tops. Also, where's a good natatorium (indoor swimming pool) in town? Thanks (unless your comment is snide and/or uses the word "pooper"--then you can go to hell. ).
Call me stupid, but I love taking dates to Jillians or D&B. It brings out the kid in both of you, and typically leads to a good date. Surprisingly few guys do this with dates, so you'll come off as unique.
Not sure if I've ever agreed with you in a relationship thread, but there's a first time for everything. I've always had really good times with girls when we got to places like these. Hell, even if you find out you're not interested in her that way, you still have a good time with them.
I would say for unconventional: 1- Take her for an airplane ride. Fly the plane if you have your license (I just got my instrument rating last year after being VFR for many years) or get someone to fly you. Chicks dig it. 2- Take her for some paintball or laser tag. But don't be too competitive at it. Let her win. 3- A canoe trip into the wilderness. Just don't do it through Deliverance country.
Chick opinion: First date should be NO PRESSURE. I agree with the D&B type date. You two still are able to chat and get to know each other without that "first date awkwardness." Something like that or a ballgame/sporting event/concert where there is something to actually DO really moves the night along nicely. No joke- one of my best first dates ever was at a laundromat where we just tossed a football in the parking lot while we waited for our stuff to be done. Go figure!
Here are some interesting dates for anytime. I've done the ones with an asterisk Cook your meal with the Chef of your favorite restauraunt. Sleeping in the zoo overnight. * Going to the courthouse for a compelling trial * Visting the firehouse * Horse Racing * Go to a little league baseball game * Riding around in a cop car Handing out blankets to the homeless Put together a puzzle from toy store Strawberry Picking * Horseback Riding * Plate painting and making * Set up a couples poker game * A Cooking Class * Go to Garage Sales * The Driving Range or Batting Cage Going to open homes * Going Bowling * Painting in the Garden places or whatever you call them * Comedy Club Sailing Lessons Helicopter Ride A Manicure Massage/Spa Some unknowns: Theaters (as in Broadway) usually give out 10$ tickets to the poor (includes anyone tho') on weeknights if you ask.
You can take all the ideas you want from around here, but ultimately, you should rely on some real smoove advice. That's right, read about the perfect date according to Smoove B.
first dates should be no more than a cup of tea. otherwise, it comes off as trying to buy her affection. hell, the cup of tea should be a quailification/interview to see if she is worth spending money on. fifty dollar dates should be reserved for when you guys are exclusive. why pay for her when she still has the option of hooking up with someone else?
since it's not a first date then of course you two are bound to be comfortable around another to the point where conversation is sparked easily. you'd probably want to spend more time with her now that you've met her and know that she's worth dating again. so... make a day of it. start off by inviting her over or going to her place (around noon or so) and talking about the different types of food that you both enjoy. get on a computer and both of you search for recipes that you think you both would enjoy (and you would know since you talked about it previously). a good one to start with is epicurious. the goal is to find the most ridiculously difficult entrees and sides to make, but again some that you would like. next, go grocery shopping with the list in hand and pick out all the items you need. good time for talking. pick up a red or white wine too depending on what you chose for your entree. flowers w/vase and a couple of candles would be nice too. drive back to your/her place put up the groceries and go back out. grocery shopping and then coming home to put the crap up is tiring. so, go out and have a cup of coffee or somewhere where the atmoshpere is similar... somewhat laid back and relaxing. ok... now that you've had time to rest... ... time to cook. make sure that you both work on all soup/salad, sides, and entree together... not assign each other a dish. will probably take a couple of hours or so to cook. another good time for chat and making fun of each other trying to put together a complicated meal. set up the table... silverware, candles, flowers, etc. put the food in your/her best dinnerware. make up some kind of goofy speech about how fun it was to spend the day shopping and cooking w/her and how with all the effort put into the meal that it better be good. lastly, chow down. if the meal is good... great. if the meal sucks... even better. that way you can laugh at each other and tell each other how the other sucks at cooking. you've had coffee or tea earlier and it kinda fills you up, so you won't be that hungry anyway. if that happens... order a pizza and have the wine with it while watching some kind of reality tv show or something that you can ad lib to... "mystery science theater style". basically a fun day getting to know each other more... w/o distractions. if all goes according to the plan... the pooper is yours. edit: and groceries shouldn't be more than 50 bucks.
Indoor rockwall climbing is fun. Hell, take her golfing for 9 holes. She can dress cute, you can show her how to swing a club, you can ride in a golf cart, putt, there's lots of time for conversation, you get to enjoy the outdoors.... ... and then I remembered that it's supposed to be rainy and cold on Wednesday... ... indoor rock climbing. Definitely. S'fun. -- droxford
Don't be so cheap. If you just increase your budget by 1000% you can get her a diamond engagement ring. She'll be happy, you'll be happy, her parents will be happy, her 5 kids will be happy, everyone will be happy. And you'll probably get laid too.
smells of regret RIET Breakfast are cool and some very funky places to have one in Htown Putt Putt and Bowling can be amusing Galleries and Museums can be great Visiting a wine region and wine tasting is great Stay away somewhere at a Bed and Breakfast The Strand would be great for a walk and lunch Make Dinner together, decide on the menu, go shopping (at wholefoods of course and catch up with Rockhead while you are there) and then your meal. Dual Massages are cool
Actually, if that's your goal, Just be a conceited ***hole during the date. Be all into yourself and selfish, and demeaning... chicks cream for that stuff. They say they want a 'nice guy'... then they totally look over the nice guys for the ***holes. Don't know why... but it's true. -- droxford
