I got a feeling that this 2nd part of season can be entertaining. Don't know if we will make the playoffs, probably not, but the chemistry will come back past the deadline, and with her maybe more good news. - We have a new backup energetic PG who has size, a winning mentality and plays defense. - We have the californian weather coming soon, and this means the mutation of Chase. A Chase with less worries about being traded/disliked and more responsabilities. With the experience of a struggling 1st half of season, beating a tough slump... I expect to see him with more confidence and more energy, helped also (like everybody) by the new wave that will cause the recent changes. Chemistry is an underrated factor and is to be noted. - The departure of Shane opens a door for a different but intriguing talent. Terrence Williams transformed the last year for the Nets (a very sad season) into something fun and exciting at the end, and just by himself. His dynamic play, his intensity and animosity transmits joy and enthusiasm... Hopefully it's also time for him to have a chance. - We have the 2nd half of the Patrick Patterson season coming. The rookie has shown promising things the last days and only will improve with time. Another strong energetic player. Important part of our future. - Lastly, your loved Hasheem Thabeet. Fans we all have been crying the whole season for lack of size and rim protection. Thabeet is still soft, still very raw, but has the ability to help us already at those things. And that alone it would be a very significant help for the team. A 7-3 center, overall second pick. Some of you wanted to tank just to get guys like this in the end. Thabeet, Favors... they are top-3 picks, they have potential, now we have on of those. Like or not he's now our defensive center. He could change the things for us, he could not, but he's what we have and I repeat, a second pick of a recent draft. The Rockets have now an easy schedule until the end of season. Right now honestly I don't care about the playoffs (despite they are reachable) I just want to enjoy again watching this team, and I think there are several real reasons to be certainly excited with what is coming. I expect from now a more vital and confident team, a more balanced team (even without Shane), all in all, a better team. The thread is as risky as necessary, taking a look at the forum. Hate the general pessimism of the place. Cavs fans have reasons to be depressed, Raptors fans, Wolves fans, Pistons fans, Kings fans... Their season is over. We still have something to fight for, and a better team. We have some good things, just appreciate them.
I think a lot of people wanted impact moves, so did I, but the reality was that Morey had to pick a direction and he did. I'm excited to see what else Morey will do in the post Yao/McGrady era come the draft.
Hard to be depressed. We essentially have the same team we had before the trade. Brooks was not playing even as good as Goran Dragic is currently as backup and he was injured for most of the season. So there is no loss there. For Battier? Well that is one loss on defense but gain on offense with Budinger, and Twill we dont know about yet. So that also almost a lateral move. We weren't a good team anyways before. We are still that same team now with more potential from some young guys added. Thabeet? We dont know yet. Maybe a plus?? From Center position size we never had perhaps? Maybe he can stop late layup drills at least in the fourth quarter? So we gained draft picks and went lateral while doing it. Got taller too. Not a great trade day but not bad either.
Beggars can't be choosers, plain and simple. Morey was swinging for the fences but hit a double. Size was added, fellas we are known for being able to train big men! Hell yeah Thabeet is a project, but if some TLC is given and sprinkle some of Chucks low post defending mentoring and you might get something special. Brooks will have his "ex-starter" woes in Phoneix now behind Nash(perfect person for Brooks to learn the team game). Lowry is our starter and he has been SOLID, hes a true pg and one of the top if not the best rebounder at his position. We bring in a SOLID backup who is OK with that role, also a pass first type of pg with more SIZE. The picks we received aren't the greatest, but they will be of great value come the first couple months of the offseason. I'm stoked for TWILL the guy has shown his frustration, well fella time to freaking shine!! Let's make this a great second half of the season.
Our pick (2011) + Suns pick, if they make the playoffs, Magic's pick if they don't (2011) + 2nd round Clippers pick (2011) + Knicks 1st. Top-5 protected (2012) + Grizzlies 1st. Lottery protected (2013) Grading the Rockets deals
Dragic is hardly an upgrade defensively other than being taller and longer, but I do like the fact that we're in rebuilding mode now.
I've watched almost every Rockets game this season but I'm really starting to lose interest. We don't have any high potential guys we can look forward to developing. I like Patterson but he doesn't get enough play time. Lee, Budinger, Hill, Scola, Martin, they are what they are. At the end of the season, we'll finish with a pick in the 15 overall range. Life sucks.
Idk why but I have this feeling that Dragic is gonna be real good with us, seriously, this comment is only so if he's great i can look back and say i called it.
Fully wanting to participate in trade deadline mania The fact the ONLY thread I've replied to today is the Jared Jeffries thread saying how he'd be a good fit for the KNICKS, that kinda sums up my overall feelings.
Brooks was probably one of the worst defenders in the NBA. Dragic has a reputation for tenacious defense.
I haven't watched a bunch of his play. I was just basing that statement off of his Defensive Rating on basketball reference compared to Aaron. I could totally be wrong here.
i thinkj the cold hard reality is that all but a handful of teams are now resigned to the fact that under the current paradigm, the competition for the next 7-8 years will be 4 teams deep, and so are pretty much shredding players. You have Boston and LA for another cpl years, beyond that Miami, OKC, NY and wherever Howard/Paul or Williams lands and then you have no man's land for most of the decade.
It will just take time to get used to the idea that we are officially rebuilding. No worries, we are still Rockets fans.
