Ducks won't be 'Mighty' next season

Can you imagine any other league allowing such a stupid...clearly promotional name in the first place??? It's about flipping time.

I remember the NBA nixed "express" for the Grizz in Memphis as FedEx was their sponsor, and that name wasn't nearly so promotional. But retaining a semblance of integrety has never been a particulary high priority with the New York Lawyers who run the NHL.

Before I get into too big a rant......

"Ducks" is still an odd name for a team. Right up there with Penguins, I suppose.

Can you think of any other dumb sports team names??

    (Jazz is a given).

I like Mighty Ducks better. It was a dumb name when they started, but it's gotten better as the importance of its origins fades. It's the same with the Toronto Raptors.

    LA Lakers

    Washington Wizards

    Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

    of course the Jazz

Jacksonville never should have gotten a franchise. The Memphis Hound Dogs would have been awesome.

I don't think the New Orleans Jazz was a bad name -- but they should have changed it when the moved to Utah

    Same with the Minneapolis Lakers.

In other sports: What the heck is a Dodger?

"Los Angeles Dodgers—The club resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1890–1957 and was named the Trolley Dodgers in reference to the borough's maze of trolley lines near the Brooklyn Bridge. It was later shortened to Dodgers and the name stuck even after the team moved to Los Angeles in 1958. "
