One week ago today I fractured my patella playing basketball. The bone fractured and both pieces were dislocated. My playmates stood around grimacing; that didn't encourage me-- not that I needed it or would have used it... I knew I was screwed. Six hours waiting in the emergency room and on into surgery. General anaesthesia. The big deal. They re-attach the two pieces of my knee and wire them together. The past week I've been stuck in a knee immobilizer on pain meds. I go see the surgeon this afternoon where, hopefully, I'll be put into a walking cast so I can get around a bit more and a bit better. I'm running the Triangle Offense: from the bed to the toilet to the recliner. How fun!
holy smokes... you dont have any pins sticking out of your leg do you? that smarts... at least you'll be up on the latest bbs stuff...
giddyup, hope you are up to snuff ASAP. In the meantime, you can use this time to look deep in your heart, to reevaluate your political ideology, to come toward the light. j/k.
That's terrible! I went through a lot of BS with my back surgery... hope you recover quickly. And yes, as B-Bob said (especially while you're on the meds ), this is your chance to ponder your place in the universe... to think about your party affiliation... you are getting sleeepy...
Giddy, I'm sorry for your accident. As far as not having any fun, well, I've got an idea for you...take a couple of them painkillers and wash em down with a couple off stiff cocktails, and believe me, you WILL be having fun...even if you are just lying on the sofa!
Hopefully you've had a groovy day at the doc's, Giddy. There are always ways to pass the time while healing. Though, they can be a bit dangerous at times.
Thanks all you well-wishers. The doc said yesterday that everything is moving along fine. I got fitted for a walking brace which allows up to a 30-degree flexion of the knee. I still walk with crutches until next week at least. rockHEAD: Have you got any hot chicks instead? I'm trying not to read too much into your selections. Are they supposed to say something about me... or you?! Surfguy: I was just running hard and came to a hard stop. The ligament that connects the lower extension of the patella to the tibia just took a small piece of the patella with it when it pulled off. They drilled three holes through the detached piece, ran wires through it and tied them on the back side. I had started playing basketball again after a 5YR/30 lb weight gain layoff. The combination of extra weight and loss of muscle tone would seem to be the cause. There is no osteoporosis or anything like that. B-bob and Deckard: My political ideology is always being impacted by events... but no more of this please! I suspect that here we are all pretty strong caricatures of ourselves as choices force compromises upon us all and the competitiveness of the argument soars. RMTex: I don't generally keep alcohol in the house. Bring some by! DEANBCURTIS: No backdoor neighbors for about 500 yards through the forest... have you a wheelchair? couch and bama: Thanks for the prayers. I need them. This worries me because I'm almost 50 not 25 where you bounce back better from things like this. The doc thinks it will be fine and I can play basketball again if I want to, but right now I'm having trouble mustering any enthusiasm for that idea. Maybe GV76 can fire me up!
Glad to hear things are going better for you, giddy. I haven't told you this but I have really started to enjoy reading your posts for the last several months. I need you to be in sharp mental shape to ward off all those liberals in that D&D Forum!
Will you guard all the major highways and keep RMTex and his booze away from me? He is threatening a roadtrip!!
