holy moly how did the rox blow this one? i mean, countless coaches and other fairly important people have said that the rockets are the most enticing team to coach. we had brown, he said he liked us, but nooooooooo we had to wait and interview other coaches. i mean maybe JVG or dunleavy or even carlisle will be ok, but theres no excuse for not getting the best coach out there.
Could be wrong, but the speed of this smacks of Detroit tampering with Brown before he ever left Philly. If he takes the Detroit job, I would believe that he already had accepted an offer from them while he was still the coach of the 76er's. If so, then I am glad to NOT have him anywhere near this Houston franchise. And if he didn't, then what is he thinking?? Detroit is like the armpit of the continent. Ew. If it means he pushes Rick Carlisle into our laps, then all's the better! ciao
yeah for real that was the first thing that i thougth too. i mean why would detroit fire carlisle unless they knew for sure they could get brown, and the only way they could know that is tampering, right? stupid tamperers. when yao averages 80 ppg againts detroit in the finals some day, they will be sorry. carlisle is definitely a class act. i loved how he went to his own firing press conference. wouldnt mind having him at all now that brown is out.
Totally agree that the Rockets (Meaning CD and Les) dicked this one to the absolute MAX Brown was ours for the asking, if all we had to do was ask with the right fricken number... This is about money - pure and simple. Les is being a cheap ass so we settle not for 2nd best, but probably for third. I hope Carlisle goes to New Orleans, takes Baron and Mash, a pick and a trade and then soudly trounces Detroits punk asses into submission!! Oh, and Larry B. - Bite ME!!! I do believe we can win with Dunleavy, but I don't want JVG. I'd rather have Carlisle than either of those two...
Sad, options left on the table are generally a downgrade from Rudy and company. I thought Larry was a good choice, RC might have been a good choice. But JVG and MD much better than Rudy? C'mon now, JVG is unproven (just 1 team) and Dunlevy doesn't exactly light fires of excitement. Sheesh, lets admit we screwed this deal up and get Rudy back.
Rudy's 6 million a year contract is for 2 more years. That probably stopped the Rockets short of an all out bidding war. They should've tacked on incentives like what Detroit is supposedly doing. If he makes it in the West, then he deserves the money. I wish I knew what was going through Larry, Les and CD's mind.
yea...let's get Rudy back so he can allow Francis and Cat to do whatever they want and continue the trend of saying "we only missed the playoffs by one game" for the entirety of Yao's career. Good thinking I'm sorry. I'm very thankful for what Rudy has brought to Houston. But for the past couple of years, I feel as if anyone with the balls to stand up to their players and change their habbits is a step up from Rudy.
If this was the grand plan, then they really fu@%@d it up. They might as well stuck with Rudy T and his bull sh*t scheme!
Whoever we get...i bet we make the playoffs next year. I'm done with you naive Rudy fans. So blind to see what went wrong when the rest of the world saw it crystal clear.
All this whining and un-due bashing reminds me of a story: (circa 1984) - I was 9 or 10 years old and the Transformers were the hot item. All I wanted was Optimus Prime. As soon as they were in stores, I begged my mom to buy one for me. To make a long story short, I didn't get one right away because we lived out in the country, and the closest store that was even carrying them was 80 miles away. Also, that same store that had them had a limited supply and sold it in hours. That was no excuse for my 9 year old mind. My mom told me that she tried her best. However, I kicked my mom in the shin and told her I hated her. As it turns out, Optimus Prime was not available in our area and was sold it in the next closest area. Conclusion: Know the facts before you bash someone you love and quit acting like a bunch of 9 year olds.
According to the buzz, Brown is sigining with the Pistons for less than he was getting at Philly. How can you say that is about the money? Why are you calling Les cheap? He paid Rudy one of the highest coaches salarys in the league. Les has constantly ponied up for contracts whenever needed. In fact, one of our most common complaints on this board arre that our players are over paid and for to long.
OK, there are about 50 threads about Larry Brown on here, so I guess this is as good a place as any to make my comment... Has anybody considered the possibility that The Rockets were more impressed with Dunleavy than they were with Brown during the interviewing process??
Crazy J - Great story and lesson. I go back to this perspective, "Things happen for a reason. Although you may not know those reasons now, they'll be revealed to you one day."
Did you ever think maybe Brown just didn't want to come here for whatever reason? Like it or not, the Rockets can't just demand that every available coach and free agent stud come here when they want them to. I think sometimes we get blinded by our loyalty and are offended when someone doesn't see the light.
Nice metaphor, but sadly I don't think it applies to this situation. I think we just watched Rockets management get outplayed and outclassed by Detroit. Seems to me that all Houston had to do to get Brown was up their offer. Brown waited 2 to 3 days after Detroit made him an offer, even publicly saying that he was waiting to hear from Houston over the weekend. There is no price high enough to pay for Larry Brown. Furthermore, when a coach like Brown becomes available, you make him an immediate offer. What the hell are you waiting for? It's not going to get any better. For those of you that think the Rockets did and just kept it quiet, you need to watch more Sportscenter. Seems to me over the last 10 years that it's standard procedure for most sports franchises to at least announce the offer they made to a hot coach/free agent in order to reduce the negative response from the fans. Has anyone see CD or Les doing that? I don't. Instead we get a quote from Les asking us to remember that the Rockets haven't done this coach search thing in a long time as if he's saying, "don't blame us, we're a little rusty". I really think with the Rockets moving into a new arena (which they are having trouble selling tickets to by the way) the organization is going to have a lot of explaining to do. Period.
If so, I declare myself no longer a Rockets fan after being one my whole life because this just may be the stupidest franchise in all of sports.
Deuce Rings, The funny thing is, my nice methaphor is very applicable to this situation as your last two posts have proved that (jumping to conclusions; not knowing all the facts; name calling; bashing someone you love). Have a nice time rooting for Dallas or San Antonio or New Orleans.
