A couple of months ago, I dramatically decided to take a break from everything Rockets related, including posting on the BBS. My addiction to the Rockets had proven to be a frustrating affair, and while they were headed to what looked to be another blown opportunity of making the playoffs, I decided that I had enough. Better to give up on them before they failed my expectations and nearly drove me mad once and for all in the process. A couple of months later, I have come to realise that though they may drive me, and probably all of us nuts, these guys are a likeable bunch. Sure, they make you scream at your TV set, they are undisciplined, turnover prone, careless, usually show up without the propper commitment to winning and are as inconsistent as they come. But in the end, what makes us care about a team? What makes us addicted to it enough to spend as much time as we do with rockets related stuff? Only the desire to win? Only the competition? I don't think so. There's a kind of soap opera going on, and with these Rockets, it's addictive. We had so much drama this season. Van Gundy coming in, bashing heads with Francis, the super bowl affair, and so on. Geez, this is the stuff from which books are made of. If I can say that I loved the Chuckster, even though we never won anything with him, I can say that our current players, for the most part, have their hearts in the right place and really are trying their best in this series against the fakers. Steve, specially, shouldn't be criticized like he is when he is putting his heart, soul and body on the line as best as he can every in single game of this series. That being said, even though Ray Allen and Brent Barry would certainly make us a better team, I'm not sure they would make us a more entertaing soap opera to follow. After all, these guys have the personality of a door knob. Unless we can somehow make a trade that really makes us a contender for good, let's stick around with our dysfunctional bunch. Let them grow together. I know they have entertained me a LOT over the years, and I think they deserve another year to try and make it work. Now, enough with the a$$ kissing and let's kick the fakers rear end from here to eternity... GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!
I love the rockets, and I want them to be a better team. That said, how do u propose we get ray allen and brent barry?
I really dont see any new player coming in here and playing with the passion of Steve. I sure as hell don't see Yao as being ready to demand the teams attention and be the one leading the way right now. Ray Allen would be a helluva player, but even when he was in Milwakee it seemed like G-Dog was running the show there.
Brent Barry is past his prime and Ray Allen is one of the softest players in the league. No thanks. I'll stick with this dysfunctional but lovable bunch.
Indeed, ZRB. You know what? I suddenly find myself believing in our lovable dysfunctional bunch. They can take this series. The bickering among the fakers has already started. O'Neal has started his usual complaints about the game plan not sticking to his lulmbering self, and that is not going to sit well with Malone and Payton, who by the way, is pissed about being benched in the 4th quarter. Meanwhile, Kobe will be on another kind of court in the same day we play game 5... Suddenly I like our chances a lot. If we play with the same heart on sunday, and come up with another win, we may just wrap this puppy up. As it stands, if we don't take this series, it will be a crime, because if that shot at the buzzer in the first game went in... I believe! Down with LA! Let's shock the world! As for you pasox2, you can't ask for more than trying their best of any team, can you? Watch them closely. They are worth sticking around with for another year, unless T-Mac or Elton Brand can be had.
remember the guy that discovered some animals under his hood? and someone suggested he train them to be his minions of the night? i'm sure the army should be about ready now.
passion is good. but Walton once said: "never mistake activity for acheivement." unless Steve can lead us into the second round and beyond, then the fundamental problem facing the team remains. i hope he can.
