i just read on a Texas message board (and then an aggie one) that the annual game will be moved to a neutral site starting in 2007. of course, in keeping with the "little brother" theme, it will (allegedly) be in the metroplex. specifically, in irving and then arlington (when the cowboys move.) any aggies or red raiders on this board with confirmation of such a potential debacle? some names being thrown about the Texas and aggie boards: The Sheep & Tortillas Classic Accept Reality Bowl Ags and Fags The neutral site game that may or may not be on TV The Red-r****d Shootout The Second-Tier Showdown there's more... sorry no link (just another message board)
As a Red Raider alum, I'd be OK with this, although I don't feel it would be necessarily a good thing. Mostly Aggies in Houston, and Raiders in Dallas, so I think it could be more skewed toward the Tech crowd. As far as the names being bandied about, most are silly.
As an Aggie, I think this idea sucks!!!!!!!!!!! I think you will find that most Aggies agree with me. Since the Athletic Director was not originally an Aggie, he was brought in to improve the bottom line, that is what this is all about.
I think Neutral site college football games are crummy anyways. You take out a MAJOR part of the experience of a college football game by having it away from either of the teams' home field.
If you've ever been to a Red River Shootout, it's really a unique atmosphere. The stands are split 50/50 and you have cheering on every play. In a home game, it could be dead silent if the visitor is doing well. The tensions are higher when half the stadium represents your rival. Of course, this is all leading up to the middle of the third quarter, at which point all the Longhorn fans sulk home. After that, it's pretty normal.
I would think that the Aggies would be ecstatic. Lately they can't seem to win out in Lubbock. It's a tough place to play as is Kyle Field, but I give the advantage on this one to the Aggies since they should win the match-up 8 out of 10 times.
You know, you really shouldn't mumble. I can't hear a word you're saying. I think it'll work out well. It might seem strange at first, but once you get your feet wet and see what it's really like, I'm sure those who are opposed will change their minds.
Sucks for TAMU since we do a good job of being loud all game, the QB often has trouble getting audibles across and running their bullsh++ offense.
if i were an aggie, i'd be pretty pissed, too. what's worse? in 2007 it's even scheduled the weekend after the TX-ou game: http://www.big12sports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/081804aac.html
I just don't think this particular game (A&M vs T-Tech) is big enough to warrant moving it to a neutral site. If the Ags want a game like this, a better idea IMHO would be to have a yearly game against an SEC team like LSU in Reliant Stadium. It would draw more people.
Tech's stadium is called Jones SBC, what did you expect when money was offered to move the game? Tech was willing to give up its home field advantage and while Tech has a lot of alums in Dallas you can't replicate a late night in Lubbock in Dallas. And what did you expect from A&M who always plays little brother to Texas?
As an Aggie i would hate this move. Tceh is not our rival and thus no nuetral zone is needed. Granted we can't get a win in Lubbock, but taking a game away from the best gameday atmosphere of Kyle field would suck. This move is purely motivated by money (around the neighborhood of 4-5 mil)... From what i have heard Tceh has signed off on the deal, but we have yet to agree to it....
I read about this. I think its a good move for both teams personally. More revenue, TV exposure, although I will miss the homefield advantage. We have dominated A&M at home for the past 10 years. We are 7-3 against A&M since 1995....... So Tech is capable of beating A&M in either setting. Take that for what its worth.
Your team is 13-12 over the past 25 years against Tech (check your spelling) - I would consider that a pretty tight and heated rivalry. Oh and why is your handle - lnghrn4life??? I dont think your fellow alumns would be too happy about that.
The record is close. I was just saying that us Aggies don't look at tech as being our rival... As far as the spelling goes, i was just spelling it the way the Tceh people spelt their own name with the flags during a football game, if needed i can find the pic for you... Read my sig, i know that it needs to be changed, i just have yet to do it, thanks for pointing that out though
On one hand I would like it, mainly because I could go to the game here in Dallas. However, the A& M Alum in me says that it shouldn't be moved to a netural site.
No, what i couldn't handle was being thrown into an environment with virtually no comfort zone. The first year of college is a period of transition for anyone and it helps when there is some resemblance of home at the school you attend. I would never want to live in new orleans and i did not realize how big of a party school tulane was. I also did not realize that i would be going to school with a majority of students who were from New York ,Boston, New Jersey, and that area. It is hard to adjust to college when there is no sense of home or comfort around you. Thanks for makin me seem like an ignorant person who couldnt handle diversity, much appreciated.
This is a done deal. Expect A&M and Tech to make their formal announcements in about 2-3 weeks. It will start in 2007 and will be a 4 year deal (initially), starting at the Cotton Bowl. Jerry-land will be an X Factor once it opens, because there is a desire to play there once it opens. Many people here in Lubbock are pissed. A&M is more of a rival to Tech than Texas, and being able to beat up on the Aggies in recent years has made the game even more important to Tech fans. Having the game in Dallas will guarantee that it will be on TV becuase there will be a title sponsor. Plains Capital Bank, SBC, and Coke are the three main contenders.
