WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Consumer advocate Ralph Nader said on Sunday that he is launching another long shot independent campaign for president of the United States.

Nader, who will turn 74 this week, announced his presidential bid on NBC's "Meet the Press" saying that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are addressing the problems facing Americans.

Nader also ran for president in 2000 when he got about 2.7 percent of the national vote as the Green Party candidate and played a role in deciding the final presidential outcome. He also ran as an independent in 2004 and got only a tiny fraction of the vote.

Many Democrats blame Nader's participation in the close race between Democrat Al Gore and Republican George Bush in 2000 for tipping the election in favor of Bush. They believe that but for Nader's name on the ballot in Florida, Gore would have been the clear winner and president today instead of Bush.

Nader called Washington "corporate occupied territory" that turns the government against the interest of its own people.

"In that context I have decided to run for president," Nader said.

Go away, f****** narcissistic, megalomaniacal nut.

There finally is a candidate that people have hope in. If he can't see that, he's clearly not interested in finding it.

Nader had a total of 465,650 (0.38 % of the vote) in 2004. The Libertarian candidate had 397,265 (0.32 % of the vote).

    Who cares if Nader runs?

My view is a combination of Cohen's view and Achillieus's view.

    It's stupid, self-serving, annoying, but 99% irrelevant.

(Nader's campaign site never replied to my message, strangely. I asked what he does to advance his passionate cause in between elections. Nobody can ever answer this for me, beyond managing his extremely large mutual funds, that were full of defense contractors in 2000, when he contributed to the largest windfall election in the history of the American defense industry.)

Would it be irrelevant if his portion of the vote swings a state like Florida?

He was getting up to 4% in a couple of states in 2000. He got 1/10 of that in 2004, and he will get even less in 2008. It's a tired shtick and the youth don't resonate with him anymore. I mean, good god, he's (edit!) older than McCain.

So, I don't think his portion will be large enough to swing any state this time, though I think it clearly did in Florida in 2000.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Nader was born in 1934. McCain was born in 1936.

If he really wanted to make a difference, he would have run for congress in 2002 or 2004.

America can't survive two Arab/Arab-sounding candidates running for the highest office in the land in the SAME ELECTION! Nader, I am afraid you will have to sit this one out, One Arab in the field is all America could stomach at this point.

Nadir, the complete and utter fool, parading his ego around yet again for the world to see. Dressed in his cheap suit with his battered briefcase, while he counts his millions in the bank.

Nadir is such an ass. I hope he wears running shoes, because he's made himself a running joke. He'll be doing this during the next election cycle. Wait and see. I can't stand the guy and I don't give a damn what he's done in the past. He is as much responsible for the madness we've had to suffer through the last 7 years as the lousy campaigns who ran against Mr. Boosh.

Impeach Bush and Save us from Canada!

Nadir is a Joke and a Fool.

Nader was supporting Edwards, he wasn't too high on Obama.

I'm voting for Nader. At this point in my life, I'm unwilling to vote for a candidate that doesn't advocate single-payer universal health care (not my only issue, but the deciding one in this election). Don't blame Nader for the Democrats' refusal to represent real progressive viewpoints.
