We wonder why more modeate Muslims don't speak out against terrorism (or, in light of this article, the acts of the Jihadists) and now, maybe, we have an idea.

Imagine that there are two sides in a "war". Now, imagine that no matter which side wins, you win. If the Jihadists "win" (i.e. the world becomes one under Islam) you're okay as you are already a Muslim. If the West (for lack of a better identifier) "wins" you're still okay because you can continue to be a Muslim. Maybe they (the moderate Muslims) don't speak out that much because they don't really care who wins?

"Jihad" is a noble concept in Islam that has been hijacked both by the terrorists and the West and misused to further certain agendas.

Jihad in Islam refers to two things: 1) self-struggle to better one's self and resist evil throughout one's life and 2) Defending the faith and dignity of fellow Muslims from foreign tyrants.

All these idiots dont know the meaning of a word, but use it anyways.

Gwayenco do some research before posting blindly, a little knowledge of something you're trying to debate wouldnt hurt.

But I guess thats what defines your kind nowadays, you just open your mouth to be heard and dont know about how much of a fool you sound.

Please tell me the meaning of "jihad", since you can post about it, you should have some knowledge. Let me know the different types and categories that they are divided into. And the Jihad which you are describing, can you tell me what it is called?

I'll be waiting for your answer, which I predict will be garbage as most your posts are.

The article wasn't that bad until I got to here:

Calling the US "militantly secular" is ridiculous. I can't imagine any muslim thinks that Bush is secular - it's curious that the author of this piece did not address Bush's "talks with god" that led him to invade Iraq. It's certainly silly to think that such sentiment doesn't fuel muslim stereotypes of the US as an aggressive christian entity.

What is all this about? "Posting blindly, your kind." You need to calm down. He 'needs to do some research?' That makes no sense - he presents an article, he didn't write it. Further, the article says The word "jihad," scholars say, is theologically multifaceted, with nonviolent and defensive aspects. But when Umm Nidal, a Palestinian legislator, says, "A Muslim mother should raise her children on prayer, good deeds, and, of course, on jihad," she is not talking about spiritual struggle or peaceful protest. It notes the distinctions you allude to so what is your problem?

Uh, you seem to be missing the point - or at least getting the militantly secular part mixed up. If you read speeches or writings from many Muslim leaders opposed to the US its pretty common for them to talk about how the US is godless, corrupt, decadent etc. You might hear them mention Bush's use of crusade, true, but most of the rhetoric revolves around the US trying to impose secularity and modernity on their societies. For instance I was reading a speech from Hezbollah's leader yesterday and he summed up the US as saying everything was about sex, money, and power - not Christianity.
