Who will make up the Rockets' bench next year?

Let's try to be realistic with this so we can have a thread that's not redundant FA speculation. Please explain your reasoning.

    6. Beverley- Barring something insane that would force him to start. I think he's a lock for 6th man.
    7. Jones- Assuming that Rockets fill the PF hole. Otherwise, he starts.
    8. Garcia/Delfino/FA- Either bring Carlos back for $3m (if available), waive then rework Garcia, or let them both walk and fill gap with a capable FA wing.
    9. Motiejunas- He's pretty safe for ~15-20 minutes a night, a bit more if Jones ends up starting.
    10. Smith- Will see similar PT at center as last year, will gain more if we use a stretch-4.
    11. No.34 Pick/FA- IF Houston keeps the pick, which would presumably be a guard, then that player will get 5-10mpg (if any). Otherwise, this spot will be held by a filler FA.
    12. Aldemir/- If we bring him over, he gets a) traded; or b) holds the mop.

Others that I'd like to see get a shot in training camp:

    Ohlbrecht
DJ Kennedy (very high on him as a developmental SG/SF)
    Whiteside

unfortunately, royce white will probably be there.

wouldnt mind seeing james anderson stick around if we're not forced to waive him to sign someone, think hes a good emergency swingman.

Mostly agree with OP, but I'd say Garcia, if we manage to retain him, would be the most important bench player and would be our 6th man. Just like Delfino was for the majority of this season.

Beverley will rightfully get similar minutes but his role is mostly as a pesky defender for the 2nd unit; it will be Garcia or whoever else we get to fill that important SG/SF backup slot who will be our 3rd or 4th biggest scorer every game.

I think it's 50/50 that White even on the roster come TC. Also, I like Anderson's game when he's in control. His option is around $800k if I'm not mistaken. I don't believe he'll be back. If we end up digging in the couch for quarters come July 1, then he'll be gone (but picked up elsewhere).

If at all possible, I hope both Garcia and Delfino are back next year. Would have both the 2 and 3 spots covered, and McHale is probably comfortable with both enough that he can let Harden take a longer breather on the bench. We need shooters next to Dwight anyway :)

Agree with the OP and mike_lu.

I'm assuming we sign Dwight outright.

I think we'll have the room exception (2.6m) and vet min to bring players back. Between Garcia 6.5m
    Delfino 3.0m

I would like to have Garcia but I think both of them are gonna get picked up by other teams.

If either come back, they will be our 6th man. I expect Lin to be more consistent next year so Beverley will likely get similar minutes to last season.

T-Jones is ahead of D-Mo as far as PFs are concerned and I think he's gonna get the PF spot when Dwight moves to Center. But who knows what an off-season can do for D-Mo. If he bulks up and shows he can defend and rebound. He could move ahead of jones.

I really like White court vision for a big man. We could have some very nice ball moving if he's on the floor.

James Anderson is very good too, Pop was pretty high on him once upon a time.

Man I hope Dmo put on some weight. his post game is a real beauty.

Tjones... I don't know he just seems athletic.

I can't stand this type of attitude. Holds the mop? Even making to a full year or 10 day contract in the NBA is an accomplishment. Hell, there's nothing wrong with making 35-40k a year playing in the D-League. It sounds like you've never tried to do something where there's competition.

Anyway, I hope Morey thinks of something outside the box and makes it all tick. Even the 12th guy can make a difference. Remember James Anderson and Aaron Brooks helped us win.

It's too early to discuss the bench, waiting, waiting, waiting until we know where CP3 & DH12 are

too early to speculate. Morey is just too trigger happy.

True, but I did "build my bench" under an umbrella of presumptions (i.e. potential signings/trades not really affecting the bench with the exception of shipping Robinson)

Both Daniel Gibson who will be a Free Agent I believe and CJ Miles who it is possible will be a Free Agent if the Cavs decline his option.

Daniel Gibson is from Houston and can shoot 3s. We could use him to knock down 3s.

CJ Miles is from Texas (Dallas), almost went to UT,but decided to make the jump to the NBA straight out of High school.

CJ Miles can fill the role of Delfino or Garcia if we don't get both back. Miles is 6'6'', can shoot the 3 and averaged 11.2 poitns per game for the Cavs last season.

By adding both Gibson and Miles, the Rockets could be adding two players that can run and shoot the 3 ball.

If we did sign D12/CP3, our roster maybe are:
    Howard/Smith
    Terrence Jones
    Parsons
    Harden
    CP3/Beverley
then we can add some LLE players:
PF/C Blatche is a good choice for 2 years LLE
SG/SF Barnes is also a good fit for room MLE
    PG/SG CJ Watson LLE?

Your tone makes it sound like you don't approve of his wheeling and dealing. So far, I'd say he's done a marvelous job with that trigger finger.

Not to derail the thread, but I think it's far too early to speculate on the bench when we don't even know the starting five as of now. Wait for the draft to occur, and wait for the first shots to be fired during the free agency period.....then we can discuss the team's depth.

Any chance we'll sign Rip on the cheap? Assuming we draft a big-man?

I think he & Garcia would be give Harden & Parsons some breathers.
