The vegetarian thread has got me to thinking. I've been trying to eat healthier, and I could use some ideas. I've made turkey burgers, and they're okay, but they need some work. Does anyone have good recipes?
buffalo is supposed to be healthier... a little leaner. And they taste great too. I don't have recipes but Bubba's Burger shack (under west park tollway near chimney rock) has a damn good one (also a good beef burger).
Just becoming a country of "oh, we want to be so Environmentally_Aware/Healthy!" pansies, is all. Nothing to see here.
Not giving up beef or pork. Just cutting back some. Trying to eat more fish and turkey, and trying to find good ways to eat it.
Sup Wes. I remember you on the ESPN boards long ago when I went by NBAguru. The trick to cooking is how you prepare the meat. Try either soaking the meat in something to add more flavor. You could use anything from milk to (oh lord here we go) Worchershire sauce, A-1, Heinz 57, Jack Daniels sauce, Stubbs marinade, or many others. Either that or add some burger spice, Ms. Dash, or some pepper if you do the spicy thing. Just experiment, and you will find things you do and dont like. Remember chubs, its all in the hips.
Buffalo burgers You can buy patties at Whole Foods. Season them the same way you would a regular burger and throw on the grill. Tastes very similar and a lot less fattening
they are pretty lean though. You cannot really cook them the same you will probably prefer them a little more rare than beef. When I cared, I made fake-burgers with tuna, egg and some filler like oatmeal or crackers or something. Those are way cheaper and probably the healthiest you can get (including soy burgers)
How about splurging on a burger every now and then but exercise more. What fun/taste/satisfaction/gratification do you get from a non-beef burger? The way I see it? NONE! You might save a few calories and grams of fat but there ain't nothin like a char-grilled chuck with a nice juicy center with hints of pink.
Are these the only vegan burgers? I know Boca makes killer spicy chicken patties which I believe are vegan. I love all Morningstar Farms products. Especially the spicy black bean burgers. The asian ones are pretty good too, especially crumbled in a salad.
