Except Yao&TMAC I don't care how Hayes&Battier can do all those 'intangibles', how Rafer can bring the ball safely, and how Francis still have something left. We just don't have enough shooting power in our lineup. Look at Dallas, 4 of their starting 5 along with stackhouse can get 30 points any night if given the opportunity. We only have Tmac&Yao who can do that. This is a team with RA's scheme and JVG's players. We either significantly change that or trade our big 2.
i'd say our most consistent shooter is Mike James. he can create for himself and shoot from midrange to 3 point range, but he's not getting any PT right now. Head is our best wide open shooter but when he's not wide open he shoots like 30%. the mavs really exposed us (like they always do). they have Stack, Jones, Terry, Howard, Dirk, and even Harris who are consistently good shooters. that's why i kept preaching earlier this season we need a James Posey type player....someone who could shoot the 3 and drive to the rim.
Another option might be for RA to adapt to these type of players. He needs to develop a system that can win with what he has.
The problem is the same as it has been since we lost to the Mavs in the playoffs. The players can't hit the open shot anymore. If we hit our open shots, we can beat anyone. If we don't hit our open shots, anyone can beat us. Any system demands that you hit open shots. We need players who can consistantly hit the open shot.
uhh tmac is pretty inconsistent too imo.....when hes good he'd be shooting like iuno 12-15 one night than like 4-20 another night
they're either missing or passing off open shots. adelman can't shoot the rock for them. what can any coach do for a poor shooting team? tell them to take granny shots?
When I'm watching the game and someone on the Rockets gets an open J, I cringe because I know it probably won't go in. On the other hand, we someone on the opposing team gets an open J, it almost always seems to go in and I frustrated because of our poor rotation. Sigh. I only wish we could make other teams frustrated on the defensive end.
TMac is consistent only in the sense that you *know* that he'll take 5 to 10 bad shots a game. Sometimes, those go in and he looks like a superstar. On other nights, then don't and he looks like a scrub. But the fact is, he TAKES that many bad shots. That is why he's a first round wonder.
Rockets need Shooters??? Hell we been saying this since the Barkley Trade We brought in so called rifle men Piakowski, novak, etc They never live up the the rep We have ALWAYS NEEDED SHOOTERS Post and dish not workign cause we didn't have shooters [Hakeem later years and Yao] Drive and Dish didn't work cause we didn't have shooters [Francis] Motion offense isn't working CAUSE WE DON'T HAVE SHOOTERS!!! Put the ball in the hole with out shooters it comes down to getting alot of points in the paint and FLOATERS AIN'T GONNNA DO IT!!! Rocket River
Adelman's press conference for the Mavs game is up. Between the lines I get the feeling Adelman's had it with the poor shooting from the team. http://www.nba.com/rockets/indexmain.html Adelman talking about everyone not named Yao or McGrady http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5382327.html Perhaps a trade is in the works?
A trade is unavoidable. We need to trade Tmac for Kobe ASAP, otherwise there's no way we can get equal value from aging and weaking Tmac. Kobe is a once in a life time opportunity, not to mention he's the kind of player who will have at least 5 great years left.
Get off of kobe's jock, its not gonna happen. trading tmac for kobe is not "equal value". kobe is a far superior player... and i hate saying it. LA would have to be held at gunpoint to make this happen and even then I doubt it would get done. edit: oh, and doesn't kobe have to approve any trade? what makes you think we would want to come here? I think he'd be happier where he is now.
I agree the issue is not the offensive scheme but the players running it. The reason why Yao's PPG is down is because the shooters aren't shooting at a high clip from downtown. Last year, teams had to respect our outside shots, not the case this year. No room to operate for Yao...
They lost themself....from the beginning of the season. after 24 games, RA haven't find a way yet. What a bad headcoach
Some of our players would shoot much better if they consistently got a good number of shots every game. Bonzi has improved in great part because he is making sure to get into the offense day in and day out. Bonzi is a vet however and he can be pushy about it. The rest of our players pretty much have to wait for whatever is left after Yao, Tmac and Bonzi are done. The Rox need a more balanced and consistent approach. Our bench players arent like Steve Kerr who could go into the game for just like 1 or 2 shots at the end of the 4th quarter and actually perform every time. Our most talented players need solid consistent minutes on the floor and a reasonable number of shots. If that means Tmac shoots less then so be it. We arent gonna win with him chucking up everything anyway.
Wow..what kinda drugs you been taking cause if it's that good that you would say Mike James is our most consistent shooter than I want some of that. Must be some really good stuff because you're hallucinating some really wild stories. Doesn't get any better than this!!
Actually, he's right. Mike James is pretty consistent -- consistently bad. 36% shooting doesn't lie, and he still takes more shots per game than Rafer Alston despite playing 11 less minutes per game.
I have been saying all along that our guys just can't score consistently when they are open and we were made to pay for this. The real issue is what is the solution?? Is our inability to score when open due to skill, confidence, mental, tiredness or others?? Can intensive practise and special shooting sessions help?? I would think intensive shooting practise before game time (on FT as well) is a must. We should also get someone to help in improving shooting confidence and shooting skill (especially for Hayes). If we stick to our mentality like some posters who consistently think certain players such as Hayes, Mutombo or anyone is on in court not to score then we will continue to be in trouble. Everyone must score when they are open, be in under the rim, 5-10 ft away or even around the 3pt arc.
