I just don't feel like this is my team and am finding it hard to support them with out a white player for me to relate to. I know we are all Americans but I mean really, who believes that?

I find this funny but you're right. Couple of white players like BMiller, BBarry, and heck even Ridnour would help tremendously.

i was just talking about this to my friends, Brent Barry, a shooter and unselfish PG would of been perfect. and no white players is ridiculous, tell me Barry is not better the Amare for this USA team. Not individually but for the needs of the team.

This is stupid, I'm sick & tired of these threads talking about "Oh theres no white players, there no black players, blah blah blah." What does it matter?? What is your point when you blatantly choose to start a thread about race?? When the game has nothing to do about race. Eventhough team USA got badly beat today, it has nothing to do with race. Hell, team USA coach is white, Larry Brown. Maybe everyone should blame him right?? Think before you start a thread like this. I for one vote this thread be locked because it contains no substance or consensual thinking behind it.

In the post game interview with Sager, was anyone else waiting for AI to bust out with something like " Yeah, well I'm still rich beyatch"...... He said another wake up call, Uhhh guess the first one they slept right through...

It is time for revamping the selection process, this is not a vacation to far away places... institute a volunteer type system and build the best team from players who really want to be there, No Amare's, no Lebron's no Marburys.... team players who can play the game the way it will be played over there. This is a complete and total embarresment, I expected they might lose but not in round one to a team who was barely supposed to be there.

A couple of months ago there was a virtually identical thread posted by Another Brother about how he had a hard time cheering for the Astros since they didn't have any blacks (at the time).

I don't agree with the original post. I don't really care what race of players we put out there. I have more of a problem with our piss poor play.

    It was satire, fool.

Here is my above post so I didn't drown it out...

This is dumb. If I started a thread about there being no black guys on our gymnastics team, and how I can't identify with them I'd be getting clowned.
The "white player's could've helped" excuse for this is half-assed. Sure, Bbarry and B Miller could've helped out, but so could Michael Redd, Allan Houston, or even a shooting PF like Karl Malone.

As a black man, I find this thread borderline racist. For years, I've had no problem supporting and identifying with any of our American players in the Olympics. (And that includes winter olympics) Color or race has never been a problem. Now I have to see this **** about guys not being able to support a team comprised of players from a league that is 90% African American, because thare aren't any whites? It almost makes me question my loyalty to so many of our events that lack black representatives (which is most, outside of T&F). Almost. I'm not that kind of person, and I'm hoping SSG isn't also. I hope this is just a knee-jerk reaction to today's loss.

All in all, Michael Redd or Brent Barry would have helped this team--no matter if they were black or white or purple or pink. USA is on a one way course towards an iceberg.

For what it's worth, SSG, I got it and had a nice chuckle.

This Olympic team is ridiculous. I don't think I'm even going to watch any of the games this year.

Interesting response. Is this how you feel about AB's idea that he couldn't support the Astros?

Let me guess, was this post satire from something posted in the D&D or something? I don't really go in forums outside of Dish, Hangout, or the GARM. If so, I'm glad SSG's post wasn't serious. I was really concerned for a second there.

Because there were no black players? That's just as dumb.

Look at my user name. The 'stros could be made up primarily of aliens from jupiter and I'd support them. (They may as well be, right now) I don't have problems identifying with players on the basis of race. If they compete every night and show the desire to win, I can identify with them just fine.

Hell, as far as the Rockets go, I'm stilll hoping Sura starts, and Ward gets traded for a bag of chips.

Now, if there was some definitive proof that the 'stros were following a racist practice of screening out black players, I'd have a big problem with that. Just like if the situation was vice-versa with the Rockets. I don't see any real evidence in either case, thus, it's not an issue for me.

I think someone else mentioned it earlier. Another Brother made a thread a while back complaining that the Astros had no African American players. It wasn't an accusation of being racist, necessarily, because they do have Hispanic players, and I'm pretty sure David Weathers is from some country in Europe that only gives birth to p*****s...but it sparked a big discussion about whether or not race should really matter when it comes to being a fan.

who gives a damn what colour their skin is. yes a player like brent barry could of helped the team...but so could a player like allan houston any player like that of ANY race. the team should never be picked on race, but rather on skills and NEEDS.

the team was picked poorly in my opinion, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the team being pure black.

not saying being black or white has anything to do with it, but why WAS Amare and marbury chosen over a brent barry brad millar or like some1 else said micheal redd (i kno hes black) he is much better then some people on that team.

Race doesn't matter. This team is inexperienced and it will take time. But I don't think they will get the gold w/ all the International team talent.

I'm a bad basketball player, so I relate perfectly.
