No way the Nuggetss hold onto Nene Nene Camby and KM are the starters, and I don't see this kid agreeing to come off the bench for the next 5-7 years. He'll either opt out next season, or wait two years and become unrestricted.
Go take a look at Camby's injury history. Nene will get his minutes. Camby played right on 30 minutes a game last year. Even if Martin plays 36 minutes a game (more than he ever has in his career), there's still 30 minutes at the 4/5 (18+12) for Nene to play. And that's not even considering K-Mart sliding down to the 3. Further, Nene has played 2 years. The Nuggets have the option on year 4, which they should assuredly take. Nene will undoubtedly be a Nugget for the next 2 years (unless traded), and then be a restricted free agent. It will be at least 3 years until he can be an unrestricted free agent Basically, you're just trying to piss Nuggets4 off.
I think Nene is in the Nuggets plans. Are the Nuggets in Nene's plans though? Camby can't be counted on for a full season. I am sure you will see a lot of Nene at center and Martin at PF this year. However, much of last year Nene complained about not getting the ball enough on offense. He felt he wasnt taking enough shots. With Martin in the fold and Anthony and Miller taking shots as well I see Nene's limited number of shots going even further down. This leads me to believe that Nene will want to move on in a few years to get a better opportunity to be more of the man for another team. Perhaps in Cleveland? Or maybe things will work themselves out. We'll see.
Bingo. I've already refuted this point numerous times. No point in doing it again. But hey Raven, if you want to have your pipe dream, you go ahead!
Personally, I think the Nuggets should be loyal, ethical, and kind. They should not pick up the team option on Nene, tell him that they would like to give him financial security NOW instead of one year later. Then, make a wink wink deal before July 1st of 2005. Hopefully, Nene will be a good little pilgrim and agree to the deal.
It didn't even cross my mind. Nor do I think that the Rox can get him. He'll want more money than we'll be able to afford. And as far as Nene getting his minutes, because Camby is injury prone, you're kidding yourself, if you think that will be enough. Another team will absolutely offer Nene a starter's position, and if Nene is like most players, being a starter is always preferable to being a bench player. Maybe in three years, they'll offer to bench Camby and let Nene be starting center, because that's what it will probably take in order to keep him. And don't try and second guess what my motivations are, when I make a post, because you haven't got a clue Oh, and one more point. Does Nene have a better chance of being an all-star in the West or East, because those type of things are also a factor. Raven
Did I not clearly point out that even if Camby and Martin play the same number of minutes they played last year, Nene can still get 30+ minutes per game? Nuggets4 has outlined it in basically every thread pertaining to the Nuggets. Facts are: 1.) Camby turns 31 during this season. He's not suddenly going to start playing 35+ minutes a game. 2.) Nene can not become an unrestricted free agent without the Nuggets' allowances for 3 years. 3.) Nene played more minutes per game than Camby last year. 4.) If 3 years from now Nene can't get enough minutes in a situation where Camby is 33 going on 34 with his history of back injuries and other injuries, he probably won't deserve the money he may get. 5.) Martin logged under 35 minutes a game playing in the Eastern conference. He's now playing in the West- Teams are bigger, faster, and tougher. Listen to the Shaq interview- it's tough playing in the West. Martin's minutes in all likelihood will actually dip, especially considering he's going to be playing half his games in the higher altitude of Denver. (Remember Hakeem sucking wind there?) Camby was a big factor off the bench in his NY days. He came off the bench for the Nuggets in 02-03. He can do it again. Look at the Rockets- we have Yao and Howard as starters. We've got one of the best 6th men in the league in Mo, yet we're still worried about depth up front. And Nene is going to not get minutes because of Marcus Camby? C'mon. Where he has a better chance to be an all-star...okay. I haven't got the slightest clue what the alignment of the league will look like in 3 years. Being an all-star certainly didn't deter Martin from wanting to enter a conference with KG, TD, Brand, et. al. The better question may be would the Nuggets be better off trading Nene and getting a solid 2 guard. I don't think they would. I don't particularly care what your motivation was, just the facts of it.
I can also easily envision a lineup, at times, with 'melo 'resting' and KMart at the 3, or KMart at the 3 and 'melo at the 2. What I cannot envision is Dre leading a fast break the likes of which helped KMart flourish with that fellow in Jersey. I could envision Dre and Arenas swappibng places tho.
Reading over this thread, if they Nugs are going to have Nene and KMart as their starters in a couple of years, aren't they way overpaying Camby?
Correct, that's the pink elephant, that's being ignored, Right now Nene is not a starter, and if the Nugs don't make him a starter in two years, then he's almsot certainly gone. I've been clear on that point, with every post I've made in this thread, and minutes played verses starting will make about as much difference to Nene as it does to most up and coming players. Very little. But you keep telling yourself that the Nugs can convince Nene to come off the bench, while other teams offer him a starters spot. Nene will start over Camby in two years, or he'll go somewhere else. Only an injury or personal problem will change this.
And you've been wrong every time you've posted it. Numerous times, people have been saying that Camby will come off of the bench for the Nugs this season. I've been very clear on this, and you keep finding a way to ignore it. Just two days ago, someone in the organization let it be known that "No one is untouchable, but Melo and Nene are as close to that as you can get". If we didn't plan on starting Nene, why didn't we trade him for Martin and keep the draft picks? Trust me, Nene will be a Nugget for a long, long time.
LOL ... some people are more worried about looking right than admitting they were wrong. More flaws in that than I care to repeat at the moment. The best part will be if Nene ever comes to the Nuggets looking for early financial security. Yeah, good luck with that one NOW, Nene! Send thank you cards to: Carlos Boozer 1345 Lying Sack Ln Salt Lake City, UT San Francisco Chronicle: Boozer's big blunder Someday, probably not too far in the future, a young player is going to prove himself in the NBA, showing that he is worth far, far more than the modest contract he signed as an underestimated rookie. The deal will have a year left, one year to free agency's multi-millions. The young man will play hard, perform like the multimillionaire he plans to become, and one night, he will go up for a rebound, come down the wrong way and mangle his knee. He will never be the same, never collect those millions. He could have had them, could have signed a fat contract sooner, in time to protect his future. His team would have let him out of the original deal, because it knew he deserved better. But the general manager wouldn't do it, because he remembered what happened to the Cleveland Cavaliers in July 2004. The player will lose a fortune, and he will have Carlos Boozer to thank for that.
If he wants more than the MLE when his current contract is up he sure as hell better start producing a lot more than he has so far in his career.
If the are gonna be playing a frontline of Nene, Martin & Anthony for long stretches of time, that's a pretty small line up for the big boys in the West.
Nene's career will play out like this. For the next two years he'll play well and show flashes of greatness. Then when his restricted FA year comes in, he'll sign a huge offer sheet with a team with cap room. Then either Denver will match or they won't. Simple as that.
How often has a player been let out of his contract ealy? I thought that was part of the overall AWE of the situation is that something like that RARELY if EVER happens Rocket River
I honestly think it's entirely possible they start Nene at center and make Camby come off the bench. They've got him locked and considering his history of injuries it makes sense.
Nugs4, did the Nugs really sign Camby up for 6 year deal??? if the dude plays 6 years worth of games over his whole career it will be above expectations...... this makes the Martin deal look like a bargin
