MAN INJURED IN OUTHOUSE EXPLOSION Jul 14, 2004 (Blacksville, West Virginia-AP) -- Warning: Smoking in the outhouse can be dangerous. A man is recovering from burns after lighting a cigarette in a portable outhouse -- causing the outhouse to explode. It happened yesterday in Blacksville, West Virginia. A spokeswoman for Monongalia (mahn-un-GAYL'-yuh) Emergency Medical Services said the explosion was caused by a build-up of methane gases inside the outhouse. She said the methane didn't "take too kindly" to the lit cigarette. The man's name and condition aren't being released, but emergency officials say he wasn't severely hurt and drove himself to a clinic. (Copyright 2004 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) Too bad about the guy who was smoking in the boys' room... but just as well about the outhouse. With that much "methane" inside, no one would have wanted to use it after him anyway. (OK, it's West Virginia. I didn't expect indoor plumbing. But please, install some ventilation... or that self-cleaning stuff... or move the pit toilet to a new "pit" every once in a while...)
