Looks like the players are pissed off with the new cap which was only increased by 450 G's. ------------------
This totally f*cks a lot of teams. Everyone was counting on having about 3-4 mil more than they will get. Maybe Dream will realize that we can't afford to pay him what he wants anymore. ------------------ Life is a **** sandwich. The more bread you have, the less **** you have to take. Damn dude that's pretty messed up...how does this affect us? ------------------ President of the CC.net Realist Club, everyone needs a dose of reality once in a while... [This message has been edited by Pete Rose Mobster (edited July 18, 2001).]
By my calculation, the Rockets now have 9.8M in cap space instead or 16.5M. That means the Rockets can offer Dream 4.8M, Mo T 4.5M, Morris 500K & lose Shandon. Wow, is that depressing or what. I do not know, but it may be possible to go over the cap in signing Dream and then have the 4.5M exception. Capologists...? (Moochie and Bull have Bird rights so they're no problem). I think this also takes away Detroit's ability to sign Webber outright. So if Webber really wants to go to Indy, he's got less bargaining power by saying he'll "walk" and just sign with the Pistons who might not be able to afford him outright. RealGM has the Pistons with 9 committed contracts (including Rodney White; excluding Cardinal, Barros, Owens, Joe Smith, & Corliss Williamson) totaling $27.8M...that leaves only 8M for those unsigned and Webber!! The Spurs had about the same cap space as the Rocks. Since they promised the Admiral 10M, they can wave DA goodbye. I haven't figured it out, but I wonder if some of the Draft day trades can't be completed. This has serious repercussions for every team. ------------------ Raef to Rocks in '01-'02! So, what are you guys going to do during the lockout? Actually guys, it appears that this is only temporary. No free agents will be signed, and no trades will be completed until this is hammered out. This is just an automatic increase in the cap. It could still go up to 42 million. Once that happens, we will find out that our roster will be: Francis Mobley Griffin Thomas Cato ------------------ Protrolls.com! "I want to be like Olajon." -Sagana Diop has the right idea... Do all these free agents, that already have agreed for a contract in principle have to renegotiate their agreements? ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
This could affect FA contracts as well as some trades. Does it not also change where the luxury tax threshold is? ------------------
If a "formula" was used to determine how much the cap would be raised (ostensibly the formula was not a secret), I don't understand what's going on! Or is it simply management trying to keep salaries down vs. players (union) trying to maximize them? Either way, bet they get things worked out in next few days.

Why is everyone panicking? The key word is interim. All this provides is something formal until the players and owners can come to an agreement. It will just push things back a few days is all. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Profiles, rankings, mock drafts, and more! The Mo Taylor Fan Site
Gater-Don't figure Morris into the equation. 2nd round picks don't count against the cap until you sign them, and they're usually signed for the league minimum, which means you can go over the cap to sign them. Cat is right. The numbers probably aren't ready. They weren't supposed to be until August 1, but they pushed the date up to the 18th. If we want to keep Hakeem, at a figure he seems to be wanting, Mo would have to take the MCE. We can go over the cap to resign Hakeem for any amount up to about 17 mill. This could also help us, as teams scramble for an extra piece of cap to make their deals go down, we'll be sitting there, and could gain something. ------------------ "I always thought Hakeem was the better offensive player and DRob the better defender." Spurever Shaq would probably agree.
NIKEstrad - I thought only 1st rounders were included in the "Rookie exception"? We agree on Griffin as he has a guaranteed contract. Add an additional $1,340,720 to my 16.5M or 9.8M. If it's both 1st and 2nd rounders, ignore Morris' 500k in my equation. ------------------ Raef to Rocks in '01-'02!
Cat, that's a 7 million dollar difference. It's going to be tough to overcome when an agreement was in place. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
This is just a mild delay. I've heard estimates ranging from tomorrow to next week. The cap will still increase but probably not quite as much. The owners are probably just trying to squeeze the players but, because it is written into the CBA, the owners will eventually lose. Many of the owners are pissed that they are closing in on the "luxury tax" and want to avoid hitting it. Tough ****! They should've thought of that when they were signing players to big deals. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust.
