Ever get these? Completely obvious comments and direction from your boss?

    "Heads up, 2*2 = 4."

"It's raining outside. There may be some issues with outside-related equipment."

How do the Lumberghs of the world maintain employment?

It's not uncommon for me to come back from lunch and find the following from my director:

    1. A Post It note on my desk
    2. A new voicemail asking if I got the Post It note
    3. A new email asking if I got the voicemail referencing the Post It note
    4. Coworker next to me telling me my director is looking for me and asking about Post It note, voicemail, and email

That sounds like a micro manager to me....I hate bosses like that, it is generally more fun to screw with them.

Before joining this startup, I was consulting in Tulsa for 2015 Studios, whose boss (not a nice guy BTW) was one of those people.

When I got there the entire staff was shell shocked by his OCD micro management, and I was there to rally the troops - I ended up telling Mr. Tom that he was the problem, not them......and left the gig, could not work for him, just a crazy dude.

It turned out that he also used development funds for his own personal gain (rumors were about 500K or more went to him) and the investor was furious.

The investor then hired me back to go back up there and try to rally the troops again, and Tom was not allowed to talk to them, but the little weezle kept going around behind the backs, and so the investor shut the whole thing down.

Just one of the most bizzare experiences of my life.

Don't get me wrong- my supervisors are all nice people, and no micro-management. All seven of them, all the way up the ladder.

I just find these random comments funny. The people in the trenches know that the bombs are dropping before the boss, usually, because they're being hit by them.

My whole division is like that. It starts 3 or 4 levels above and snowballs down. One micro-manager micromanaging the next micro-manager and so on and so on. Biggest cluster**** of useless management I've ever had the displeasure of being a part of. Then they spend half their time patting each other on the back about such a great job their doing because their little spreadsheet has all the columns filled in......which translates into fat bonuses and the gi joe with the kungfu grip.

Sounds familiar. Fortunately, my boss also recognizes the great job I do, so I've been rewarded very nicely financially at my company. Considering the crap for management we had before her, I'm able to brush it off and even make fun of her about it.

I talk to my boss every other week on the phone for a few minutes and I only seen him face to face 2 times in the five years I've worked with him. One of the reasons I find it so hard to chase the money at another companies.

At my old job, my boss did basically nothing. Didn't really train me or get me acquainted with a few vital stuff. Gave me my work space and was like "OK...GO!" and my first week was spent staring at the cubicle walls, clutchfans, and messaging other coworkers about the work the dude before me did and his clients. I think a little micromanaging would have helped.
